Native 5 LW Question

I've had my N5 a few weeks now and it's quickly become a favorite. I have one concern since I'm carrying it so much and constantly taking it out: The clip grips the FRN texturing on the scale very firmly, which is good, but it feels like it might be causing some serious wear to the edge of my pocket. On my Stretch and Delicas there's a large smooth oval where the clip contacts the scale. On The Native it's a relatively small round area which makes taking the knife in and out of my pocket a bit less smooth... Have any of you long time N5 carriers had your jeans ripped or prematurely worn in the pocket area from this?
 
My N5 LW does grip my pocket quite snuggly as well...each draw is a little slower and I sometimes look down to double check I haven't snagged something else, but I haven't noticed any additional wear. I generally wear a lot of softer khaki pants. I kind of appreciate the 'firm grip' considering the knife weighs next to nothing.

NG...I might try clipless! The N5 seems like a good candidate. :D
 
All my knives shred pockets. I carry a Para2 and a Delica to work more than any other combo and these are a pair of my work pants.

Some models seem to wear out pockets faster than others--for example the G10 on my Para 2 seems pretty abrasive. I also have a Salt 1 that seems to cause a lot of wear, more than any other knife I own. I was wondering how the N5 does, since I seem to be wanting to carry it all the time.
 
i have more pants pocket wore out because of my spyderco's! i found one thing that helps,replacing the clip with a deep carry one really seems to help.:thumbup:

I've found that too, but the N5 has a unique clip that AFAIK has no aftermarket deep carry options.

I don't see how a deep clip changes the amount of wear on fabric? If anything it will create more at the edge of the pocket from travelling over and abrading on the screw heads, which would not happen with a regular clip.

Your only choice may be to sand or smooth the frn or bed the clip to have less tension, both of which would sacrifice holding strength.

I really dig the FRN color and would like to see a Manix 2 in the same color!
 
I almost bought the forum Native--still tempted, but it's about the same price as the S110V version if you add in the $13 shipping that the SFO will charge. So then it just seems like an ok deal, not a great one. I like the Native so much though that I'm considering getting the fluted carbon fiber/S90V lightweight inspite of the high price
