Native 5

The G10 Native 5 is indeed heavier than the lightweight version (3.7 vs 2.5 oz), but they are the same thickness overall.

IMO the G10 is far and away superior to the FRN. Better grip , feels much more solid and substantial in the hand and I prefer the weight. Definitely worth another $50 to me.

Gone is the vertical Blade play that is common among the usual FRN lock backs. The Native 5 is solid in both FRN & G10. Not sure about the Titanium, my pockets are not that full.

I had the frn native for a while before selling it. It is a tough knife and mine had no bladeplay whatsoever. I personally like g10 for the feel but think that for any reasonable task either version would suit your needs. It really comes down to feel in hand.

I believe that the FRN blade is 3 1/16" long while the G10 model is 3". Not a big deal, but it could matter in some locations and to some people.
I have been tempted by the Native 5 G10, but I suspect it wouldn't get that much pocket time. I prefer slightly smaller knives for edc.

It's not the subject of the post, but it concern the steel of the Native 5, well the CPM S35VN.
I just want to quickly know how S35 is compare to ZDP-189, VG10 than I know better.
Just a few words, like the order of resistance or easier to sharpen.
Is it VG10, ZDP and S35 ?
Or VG10, S35 and ZDP the hardest ?

If you like heavyweights, get the G10. It's 1.2oz heavier than LW, almost as heavy as the PM2.

I prefer the LW. I like G10 but not $50 more. At that price, I'd prefer to get aftermarket linerless G10 scales.

where can you get those?,please email me ,Thanks

I have the standard black and the 2015 forum FRN Natives. Nice light knife with a great steel and a sure grip. Opening is stiff at first but wears in nicely. Recommended. Also - if the Forum 2015 is still available get that one!!

Day 5 with Native 5. I cut 60 feet of corrugated cardboard both with the grain and against. I cannot feel any degradation in blade sharpness. This is my first S35V and I am impressed.

No one to give a little help on my question ?

Nasgul,
I'm no expert on Blade steel but me thinks that the Spyderco S35V has better edge retention than vg10 and S30V. Not sure that it is as good as zdp189. Only time will tell.

According to Crucible, S30V and S35V should have the same edge retention, but S35V is a tougher steel. In my experience, S35V is between VG10 and ZDP in edge retention and sharpening.

Thanks Arty ! ;) It's was what I was thinking when I asked those questions, but I wanted to be sure !

I'm not a huge FRN fan, so I went with the G10 model and I've been very happy with it. If I could only have one folder, it would be the G10 native 5, for sure.

I have both FRN and G10 (as well as CF, Fluted Ti and DIW). I strongly prefer G10 and carry one or another variant of N5 daily almost since they came out. I love the knife. I do not mind an extra weight, feels good in the hand and I love the look of liners.
The G10 scale edges are not comfortable like the FRN. Spyderco makes an excellent sturdy knife so either is a win.
I use my G10 N5 quite often, twice a week breaking down boxes, cutting fiber glass reinforced tape. Once chop into pieces a box from elliptical with very thick cardboard and never felt that edges on G10 uncomfortable.
