Look around for Cold Steel's Red River knives, which replicated several authentic historic patterns. They're no longer in production but you should be able to find one. I re-handled several as gifts and keep the elk skinner model in our picnic kit. They're all Carbon V steel, excellent cutters.
thing about the 15, is it has a trailing point, and that thing on the top, where it gets narrower (not an expert on knives), the 17 is awesome, and the 16 is cool, just thought I would let you know this will also be my first fixed blade (unless I get one for my birthday). So ya. Thanks.
