Native Closing Issue

I'm having an issue with my first Native. It's the brown KC exclusive in CTS-XHP (just in case anyone else has one with the same problem).
When closing, there's no tension pulling the blade into the handle. I need to push the blade into the handle to close it. There's no problem with it staying closed though.

I'm not sure if I'm explaining things clearly enough but it seems to me that this might be a factory defect. Before I send it to Spyderco, I just wanted to roll it by the experts :)
Any feedback is greatly appreciated!

*edit* This is brand new, straight from the factory.

I have that knife, in fact it is in my pocket right now. Mine snaps closed easily.

Before you send it off, check if there is anything in the knife (especially around the pivot) that might be causing a problem? Check for lint and other debris.

Maybe a drop of oil around the pivot would help. Obviously, you can't adjust the pivot on this one as the pivot is pinned and not screwed so if these don't help, you might have to send it to Spyderco.

Best of luck. :)

I tried canned air and some oil and it's still not closing correctly. I'll wait a few days for more feedback before I send it to Spyderco.

From the factory? I have the same one and a regular Native and never had a problem. I always wash my Native with hot water and dish soap, so try that. I get the knife wet, pour dishsoap into the pivot and work it in. I then rinse, rinse, and rinse. Flick dry, make sure there's no soap marks, if so then rinse some more. Then use canned air to get out any more water. Then oil the pivot. Bam! like a brand new knife.

I would personally attempt to do what is mentioned above before sending it in. If that doesnt work then send it in.

HI Bazillions,
Please do send it in to our W&R department and let them take a look. That is the best recommendation. You can find all the details you need here, http://www.spyderco.com/edge-u-cation/index.php?item=10. Please be sure to include all of your contact information and describe the problem just as you have here.

Apologies for the inconvenience.

Kristi

Wow. I sent the knife back to Spyderco 03/25 and just received it back this morning (04/03).
I'm happy to report that the closing issue has been fixed and the knife is in perfect working order.

A big thanks to Kristi and Spyderco for awesome service!

Excellent! Wouldn't have expected anything less.

Hey peeps, turns out that the problem with the blade closing has returned. It doesn't "snap" back into the handle... you sorta need to push it in. It's sorta frustrating because this is such a great folder. Do you think there's actually anything that can be done about this problem? I was using it as an EDC but have switched it out for the Dice. Preferably, i'd like to carry my Native, but not with the problem I'm having...

Aye, that sucks. Or blows, whatever your preference. I'd send it in again. With the non-closing deal, is the detent weakened as well?

The only time I've had a lockback regardless of brands not close correctly is when they've been gunked up or the pivot is very tight. Does it still lock open without issue?

What lube are you using? Some are known to get "sticky" over time, as their solvents evaporate, particularly if their primary purpose is as a "penetrant", instead of a "lubricant"...

have you taken the knife apart recently? Sometimes if the handle screws have been over tightened then the blade will be tight and not snap back. try adjusting the handle screws slightly and see what happens.
