Native: Lock strength?

Ken,
When you get that new Native modified, I'd love to see it. Sounds super sweet!

Sal,

I was rummaging through the Spyderco archives, and I noticed that the Native lock (440v) was rated at 500 in/lb. and was rated as" Safe for hard use". Take 500 and divide by 3 and you get around 166 in/lbs. The Native lock now is rated at 90 in/lbs. Does that mean that the new Native's lock is not rated as highly as the older one or is my math fuzzy?

On a tangent, what's the Rockwell hardness on the s30v Native? Looking at different websites, I get ranges from 56 to 59 Rc. Thanks.

Heheh, though if I ever spent the moolah to buy a Strider, ain't no way anybody's going to subject it to a breaking test! :D

Well, just keep in mind.... If you do break it, Strider will replace it.

HI Safong. The 500 inch/lbs sounds closer to our Stainless Native which runs in the high 400 inch/lbs. It's AUS-10 though. Could've been a brain fart? ;)

S30V is in the 58-60 range. S60V (440V) was kept in the 56-57 range.

Thanks again for the reply, Sal. You learn something everyday, but it's always easier with you have a willing teacher. :)

Somehow I don't think that even the Strider guarantee extends to a stint in Sal's air-actuated knifebreaking machine! :D

I own a couple of Spyderco Natives and they are fantastic. I also have the Operation Iraqi Freedom commerative edition which I really like. I would use these as EDC. A quick question for Sal, do you make the OIF commerative knife as a plain edge? I have the serrated version and I like it, but I would like a plain edge version as well.
Another question, do you have replacement clips for the Native? Mine somehow came apart and I can't find all the pieces for it.
Thanks

I still like the old Gin 1 version. Too bad I lost it at the Y.

S30V is a bit of a pain to sharpen if you're lazy to sharpen regularly such as myself.

Hello,

I don't want to start a new thread about lock strength, so I post my question here. I like the Police and the Military and I want to know, how many inch/lbs per inch those Spydies can withstand? Sal, can you help me?

Thanks,
Thomas

A new S30V Military reached about 150 inch/lbs per inch.
I never saw any data for the Police. Would like to know both for the SS and G-10 version.
