I want to go Native!!!
but can't decide between the native or a native III
what do people think of their differences, do you prefer vg-10 or s30v. I presume that these are pinned together and point down carry, is the new carbon fiber also pinned
thanks in advance

Native III has a more rounded/fuller handle than the Native. It also has the wire pocketclip which I prefer. As far as steel goes, I've been quite happy with VG-10. I do believe that the Native III is tip up but you can mount the pocket clip for right or left pocket carry.

I have both and prefer the Native III. The handle is more comfortable and, IMO, and is better designed. However, both are nice knives and I know many folks like the Native for its slimmer handle.

I've tried them all and the native III is the best choice in my opinion. It has a fuller handle and better overall ergonomics and a wire clip to boot! The original Native is still a great overall utility knife and it's advantage over the Native III is it's slimmer profile.....still the Native III is the best bang for the buck.

does VG-10 really compare with spyderco's S30V? i don't have experience with any VG-10

I have always thought Spydercos VG-10 ranks just a little under S30v (in edge retention), but very very close.

I like VG-10 and S30V both. They are close, but I might give sharpness and edge retention to S30V. And a VG-10 seems a little tougher.

I prefer the high flat grind and CF on the Native IV.

I prefer the wire clip. But, the grind and handle material of the Native IV have been the first and only Natives to catch my interest. The high flat grind and Carbon Fiber outweigh the clip easily IMO.

I can't speak to compare shape/feel of the earlier Natives in the hand. But, with the short hollow grind and FRN on the earlier Natives, I have never had any interest in any Native up till the Native IV.

But, to each their own.

.

I slightly prefer the swell grip and grind on the Native III. On the Native II I do prefer S30V steel slightly if your going just by steel. You can't go wrong with either!

If you think to go Native, may be you can consider Native4. It is much more expensive, but IMHO much more superior to all previous versions as well.
Also, if we lucky, FRN Native4 will be out in future.

I would love a native 4 but I am not a huge fan of carbon fiber and the price of this version seems disproportionately high ( I also just spent a lot on a Para military, izula, m4 BM 710 and a BM 943).
I love the Para but it is too big for my pockets to EDC and wanted to try another smaller spydie. Between the 1 and III I presume the III with it's more contoured grip is thicker, does any one have a photo of both of them from the side so I can compare the thickness, thinness is important for the use I foresee
Thanks

Native Lightweight for less weight, thinner handle thickness, and S30V's edge retention. By the way, both models are tip up carry on either the left or right side. Either one is a great choice.
