Native with S35V and G10 or Paramilitary 2

The only ParaMilitary2 with S35VN was a distributor exclusive with Brown G-10 from a couple of years ago and you'd probably end up paying $200 for one now!

You can get the Native5 with S35VN and Black G-10 at any Spyderco dealer online for $135 shipped.

Of course, ParaMilitary2 with S30V and G-10 for $126 is pretty good too.

For a ParaMilitary2 with a steel better than S30V you can get the S110V with Blue G-10 for $153.

For a Native5 with a steel better than S35VN you can get the S110V with Blue G-10 for $150.

Generally I prefer larger knives. But in this comparison , I'd go with the Native5.

Dark blue G10/S110V would be my choice. But the black G10/S35VN is still great.

I like the clean lines of the Native5 and how there's no hump in the blade for the Spyder hole. Plus , the back lock and back spacer look sick!

In the world of small folders , the Native5 is my top pick.

The Para2 just never really wowed me. I do like the compression lock however.

This is very personal choice. I love my Natives and cannot wait for Shaman. I have a lot of respect for Para2, but never carried one. When I felt that I need a longer blade, Caly3.5 was my choice.

My go to is my pm2 the native is also a great knife.I like the length of the pm2 just a bit more.

I'm in the same boat as Wolverine666 and BH49, in that it's Native all the way for me and ParaMilitary2 just never did it for me and never carried any of mine.

Native5 S110V & G-10 at $150 is only $15 more than Native5 S35VN & G-10. I'll take G-10 plus liners over Lightweight FRN any day.

Thanks for your answers so far. I hope more people will chime in. I've been on the forum for about five years now. Long enough to know that I'm not really a knife nut or collector. I'm a knife user. I have a Delica 4 and really like it. Not too expensive if I lose it. Light in weight, good size blade, easily pocket-able. I'd like to get something a little stronger and a little bigger. I'm not going to spend much more than $150. I never have. Can't bring myself to do it. So I'm looking at either a basic Paramilitary 2 or a Native 5. I chose the Native 5 with G10 and S35 intentionally to get it as close to a PM2 configuration as possible. A picture comparison would be awesome!

I have 5 Natives and only 1 PM2. I tend to reach past the PM2 for a Military.

In practical use, the Native won't feel much if at all bigger than your Delica.

The PM2 definitely feels bigger and I carry it or my Caly 3.5 absolutely every time I know I don't have to worry about a sub-3" blade length.

To be honest, the Para 3 feels "bigger" than the Native to me, as well.

What is the texture like on the G10 versions, the black handle and the one with S110? Some Spyderco G10 is great, but some can be on the rough side.
Also, does anyone know how the width and thickness of the Native compare to the Caly3? I am guessing narrower, but thicker.

PM2 is my all-time favorite knife. Amazing ergonomics, fits my hand perfectly. Pretty light for its size, and I love the compression lock. I've owned a few LW Natives and they never did anything for me. Seems very sturdy but overbuilt for its size. I'd rather have a Delica in that size, personally. Also, the choil seems to take up too much of the total blade length.

But lots of people love the Native and dislike the PM2, so I would definitely try both out in hand first if you're able.

Depends what you are gonna do with it . The native is very very tough compared to the pm2 just keep that in mind

The native 5 is a great knife but I could never fall completely in love with it. I only use and carry it now because of the Maxamet steel blade in it. My vote goes for PM2.

I love my pm2's. I think it's about the perfect knife. I've had some higher end knives nothing crazy but some sebenzas, les George , hinderers etc and I always go back to pm2. I had a maxamet native it was nice but I let it go as i didn't see it getting much use. Messing with a cruwear manix2 now . At end of the day they are both sweet knives so u should handle both

Try both, the PM2 has become my favorite, I have also owned several Native however, prefer the blade shape of the PM2 and Delica style.
I dismissed the PM2 until last year, feels great in hand with excellent performance.

Regards.

Maxamet Native w/ FRN, please.

Edit - I didn't answer the 'why.' Because I find G10 slippery, the PM2 is slightly too wide in pocket for me, and I prefer the lock on the Native.
