NATO ("Lifeboat") match source?

Sparklers are not like matches, you can throw them very violently and they won't blow out. You just ignite the strike anywhere head, it ignites the rest of them, the chain reaction will ignite the sparkler and you shoot it.

Ya got me there. But I can't see my self bringin sparklers camping. Wouldn't it be better to bring a flare?:)

If you chopped off the "handle," a sparkler (or 2 or 3) might fit in a cigar tube. It would be lighter than a standard road flare by lots.

For many things, you can break the sparklers up though and use them as wind proof contact firestarters, and similar you can use them for multiple signals. My main reason in experimenting with them as more for a "what if" situation rather than primary pack materials, improvising from random kit. Many things you learn can carry over to other things so even if you don't have the exact same material you still benefit.

and prolly the use of flaming arrows. It was neet to see the old barn burn after being soaked in a flamable liquid and shot with a flaming arrow:D
Just like in the movies.

That is why it is nice to live right next to the ocean, or have everything covered in several feet of snow.
