Natrix

Natrix, the Water Snake. Aggressive bastards, and foul smelling, as well. (copperheads are worse for smell, tho) I've pulled many of their teeth out of my hands over the years. I don't use a hook or stick for hunting.

Natrix, the knife. Looks like about 50 other knives on the market right now. Nothing to write home about. I'll stick with my ZDP-189 Shallot.

People want one because it's the mass produced version of the ZT 777 with a sub frame lock. And also folks want to buy it because of the bs microtech caused because they copied the 777 and called it the matrix... This is the natrix. I hate 8cr13mov steel but I'm getting one for that reason alone.

To be clear, I wasn't saying the Natrix isn't a good knife, just that it doesn't appeal to me. There appears to be nothing about it that is unique, or really even different, when compared to many other knives out there. I'd never presume to tell anyone what THEY should like. If you like it, get one! And let us know how it works for you.

nothing different? its got the patented sub frame lock... not saying its a first but not a whole lot of knives have this. its pretty different. otherwise its really just a budget knife made in China that looks like a matrix, ahem I mean zt 0777.

in any case I understand that it doesn't appeal to you otherwise, everyone has an opinion nothing wrong with that. if this wasn't based off the 777 design I wouldn't bother with such a budget model. I hope they do a sprint run with elmax or the like for real knife users.

It's not trying to be anything new or unique. It's trying to take one of the more desirable knife designs of the last 10 years and putting it into an affordable package.

I just got mine and I got to tell you it's disappointing. The scales are thin, the blade is thin, the quality is not what I want in this low price range. I have several Kershaws, my favorite is the Clash and this is not up to that level even though it costs more. Sorry, you'll see what I mean when you hold one...

Knifecenter has the Natrix available for pre-order now. Doesn't appeal to me at all and I like most Kershaws.

Guess I just don't get the appeal of the sub-frame lock. As near as I can figure, it's an internal frame-lock? And it has scales on both sides? From my side of the fence, the frame-lock is just an over-built liner-lock(minus one scale), exact same operation, just thicker material. Looks like they went full circle. Hell, my folding fishing knife from forty+ years ago had a brass liner-type lock. Evolution, but not revolution.

Nothing wrong with evolution, generally speaking.

On a related note, personally I'd prefer a scale hiding just about all of my frame locks.

As for the Natrix, a thin blade is a positive attribute to a lot of the folks around here.

Based on my limited experience and observation, it rarely works to use lower budget stuff to mimic high end products (in this case, ZT0777).

Evolution is the way of the universe, change is inevitable. Positive change is growth. And often we come full circle before we even realize it. There's little happening today that wasn't happening in Roman times. The difference is that things happened much slower then. Pretty much everything that can be done practically, as far as cutlery goes, HAS been done. We get handed variations on a theme as new and revolutionary with distressing regularity. The truth is, there is nothing new under the sun. We get all hung up on the locking mechanism, and forget about the actual knife part. And in the case of the Natrix, the actual knife part hasn't been so exciting, from what I can see.

Don't get me wrong, my favorite carry folder is a Kershaw Shallot, a regular frame-lock. Mine is the composite blade with ZDP-189 edge. Sharp as hell and stays that way.

But I have no dog in this fight, I usually carry the perfect folder. A fixed blade. Won't close on my fingers, no matter how hard I try.

They already have similar knives that are way better in every way. Zt 0770cf and Kershaw link. Had they just changed these to 3d machined g10 scales and made in USA they would have done a great job. Instead they made a $12 knife at a terrible factory and sold it for $40

man o man those reviews are scary. this isnt the kershaw i know. sure their chinese stuff is weak on fit and finish and wide tolerances but these issues i read on the review thread....just wow. i almost want to get one just to see how bad it is firsthand. guess i should watch the video attached to the review thread on it.

edit part..watched the video. shocking on how bad. id demand my money back from kershaw on that example.
