I have a propane forge. They are putting in natural gas by the house. If I sign up now its $100.00 for the tap meter and up too 500 feet of line. I'm going to have it done and put the meter at my shop. I will be adding gas heat to the shop. My ? is can I run my forge on natural gas? If so what do I need to change. It is a forced air Forge with a 1/8" oriface in a 1/4" gas feed line.
Any help will be appreciated.

Before they put in your line discuss it with them because it will take a larger line and different regulator. You need more pressure than household gadgets.

I remember it was Eric Fleming.Maybe he will chime in.

I might be wrong here but I would think the only real difference between the propane and the the NG is the type of jet in the burner and possibly the HP regulator! But then that is just my O2, I am not an expert in that field! :D

Ok here's what I've come up with so far. The gas co. can up my press to 5 psi on a 1" line into the shop. If I neck this down to 1/4 inch and install a ajustable reg should this give me enough gas to bring the forge up to temp?

This is what he has on his site- Basically larger pipes, valves and jets.

This forge uses natural gas at residential pressure.

To get this to work you need to keep your minimum gas flow pipe size to 3/8".
A one inch feed really helps.

It is all about volume of gas when not relying on pressure.

If you can get an increase in pressure, that should help and maybe you don't have to do the forge refit.
