Just to make sure I'm reading you correctly: is this because of a large number of unpleasant creepy-crawlers who'd be joining you, or something else? And is the solution to rig things so you're off the ground?
 
The Pacific Northwest has LOTS of resources for shelter, etc.

Pitdog,

I visited Oregon a few weeks ago and noticed similar wood on the beach there. Why does the "west" coast get so much of this?
