it has rain here pretty much for the last month 3-4 days a week. so when the clouds broke i broke out for a little outting. i like tinder boxs they can be reused and filled with fire supplies while you travel. then when you stop all you need to do is drop a spark in the box.so heres mine.
just an old rotten log

very nice.

wow didn't expect that from you all thanks so much for the kind words. i would love to see other idea for easy make tinder boxes. On the note of burning it it was only 38-40% with wind so i was happy to let her go but she did the job and kept me toasty. thanks you guys

yes all you have to do is cover the hole with something green or that wont burn it goes rite out then on the next lite it is realy easy to get going cause every thing is super dry.
the 2 ways ive seen them used is to get your coals good and hot in the box and then add them to less flamible material and FIRE.
the other way is to set the burning tinder box under your teepee blow on it when the flame comes up your wigwom will burn.:cool:

...
P.S. Spark my a$$, I see that bic in the background! Cheater:p

hehe, I see it too. Busted! :D

Seriously, I should try this too. In survival courses, people were always learning me how to make a tinder box from a metal can or similar things.
Never really found that usefull, as I always taught I wouldn't have a metal can with me on a real survival situation, and if I would, I would probably have a bic lighter/matches and a gas stove with me too.

But being able to use a rotten log for it can be really usefull. I'm curious how many logs fit for the task would be around if you try to find them. I will certainly try it next time I'm outdoors in the woods. (With or without a bic lighter ;))

I believe ya, was only teasing.
The firesteel is also visible in the same picture, next to the bic, partially behind the busse.

I see it took you only 15 minutes to convert that log into a tinder box. Pretty fast.
