Natural Tinder Question...

G'day Marion

I hope you don't mind me asking, but it looks like you could get better sparks off that rod... Do you choose to use the spine of the knife for a reason?
This particular video is one of a series I took (whilst on holidays) where I was comparing the three different stainless steels used by Fallkniven (ie 3G, Laminated VG10 & straight VG10) as a mischmetal firesteel striker.

BTW all three work well

I will probably eventually get a piece of hacksaw blade and see how that goes. If it works, I'll eventually use that instead of the spine of a knife as a striker.

Kind regards
Mick

Mick,

We have a small cottage on a lake. My daughter is 15-years-old and a typical teen-age girl. She gets bored when mom and I are doing the outdoor thing. I can give her a piece of fatwood, a fero rod, my hack saw blade striker and a mora and she can stay busy for a good ling time.

If a teen girl that would rather be texting, gabbing about boys and being a princess can light fire after fire with it, anyone can. :p They do put out a nice shower of sparks. Give it a try.

Thanks for the heads up

I'll get to my local hardware store on Sunday (I'm going fly fishing for European carp tomorrow :D) and get a hacksaw blade and give it a good try :thumbup:

Kind regards
Mick
