Naval Jelly

Stainless steel wool might solve the secondary rust problem, but it might also be a bit more abrasive.

I've used nasal sebum for oiling slipjoints and fishing rod ferrules before.
Never thought of using Navel jelly to clean blades though.
I had no idea it was so corrosive....
No wonder the wife is always pestering me to clean that sucker out.
It does have it's upside though...

I've been to Hillside Orchard Farms LOL! Seeing that jar gave me deja-vu.

They have damn good peach butter (like apple butter, but with peaches).

Yep Karda, If you don't wash em out every once in a while they grow some REALLY corrosive goo. Would have to be diluted to be considered weaponized.

Phillll, that sounds awesome. To me apple butter is just extra smooth applesauce with way more cinnamon, what isn't to love about that. Imagine the peach version would also be great. 2 of my favorite toppings for waffles are apple chunks sauteed in butter, brown sugar and cinnamon or peaches pretty much the same way, so I am guessing if I ever see that stuff I need to buy large quantities.

mmmmmm..Dutch oven biscuits, butter, and bacon and all that stuff:eek: mmmmmmmm! Yess!!! were in the cantina Shavru;)

I folded it inside some puff pastry sheets and baked them up. Simple and delicious.

excellent advice-- BLO has been my main preservative but I did buy some ren wax to secure the blades--- I found the problem with steel wool not only is extra oxidation but also it can actually damage the poorer quality metals used in most tribal ethnographic blades( pointed out by JW after I noticed strange marks on my mandau)
will follow your method as well, I got a good deal of the light corrosion cleaned without trouble using the antler/ chopstick method, I have several cans of ballistol and will see if it does better than the food grade mineral oil

Ren wax or even Johnson paste wax or Auto also works well on brass, copper & wood as a protectant and will make it bright & shiny. The mineral oil is fine but don't use olive oil on any knives because it can/will become rancid, and if this is on a knife you prep food with it can make you poop like a goose!
