Navy Issue Knives

Some who have seen it think it came from a "pattern drawer" whatever that is.

I dont think mine is the same as the pattern drawer that your really neat knife came from but here is what mine looks like.

It is an unfinished Sailor's knife.

I don't want to get ahead of myself, but I believe that even I could have identified that as a "Sailor knife." Maybe even first try!

(Maybe.... ;))

all I've done so far is get the brown rust off. I used sandpaper because ultimately I will probably try to polish up the blade. Some WD-40 in the joint brought back some walk and talk, more than I expected actually. I don't know if I am going to repair the scale with a piece of wood or replace the scales altogether. The bail is definately a homemade job...it makes pocket carry very uncomfortable so I'll cut it off...OR I'm going to cut the bail off and sharpen the blade and carry and use it as is...

It looks like a good portion of the blade has been sharpened away but it is a very thin and pocket friendly knife (minus that lanyard bail)

this is actually the first knife I have bought in a long while. being a lobsterman = being poor and cutting out non-necessities but $2 for a decent fixer-upper and user..I couldn't pass that up! My brother actually has a collection of about a dozen or so of these navy knives and lifeboat knives. I will have to round them up and snap some pix of the whole group when I get a free minute.

I would love to see a picture of your brother's collection, Pete! And an "after" pic of your Kutmaster some time.

The hole is a form of Shackle Key - a wrench to turn threaded shackles.
