NC Whisper Momma forge

I have the opportunity to trade for an NC whisper momma forge with the open ends instead of the side opening (not the side opening). Would this be a forge for a beginner? I have been doing stock removal but want to get into forging and this one is local. I have read online that they are mainly for horseshoes. I know they will work for knives but not sure if they are more hassle then just buying one made for blade smiths.

If your getting it for a screaming then it could be usable. But the door opens on the side like you said. You could cut like a 2.5x2.5 hole in one end and use it that way. If money is tight then that’s a good option. Or buy or build a knife forge.

This is the model that has the open ends so no cutting would be necessary.
