NE Ohio Busse Boys Tree and Pork chop Fest!

Take some video. I want to see some wood chips flying.

Guy, if you lived in Cincinnati, I could make the trip.
But Cleveland is just too long a haul.
When are you moving to Cincinnati?

When are you moving to Columbus? I understand there's some sort of big college there?

c4man is a new grandpa again :D and we are having the baby dedicated tomorrow. Have a good time and be careful and enjoy the pork

Congrats.

How do you dedicate a baby? Pour champagne on her head? :D

This is how a Yankee of Polish/Italian descent does "BBQ" pork. We don't spend 14 hours stoking a smoker. We cheat.

7# pork butt. Put the dry rub on last night.

I wasn't sure it would fit in the dutch oven. The 7 pounder was the smallest one available at the store that day. It should be enough to feed us four Hogs. :D

And, add the braising liquid. Into the oven, four hours at 325F.

btw, recipe here: http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/paula-deen/bbq-pork-sandwich-recipe/index.html

A HUGE thank you to steelnut, forager, and rtiger2. I couldn’t have done it without you, gentleman….although I might have tried, with very bad consequences. forager brought a chain saw; and collectively we figured out the safest way to drop these two problem trees. So, a little work, a lot of pork, a little beer…a good time was had by all.

The gangs all here. From the left: your humble correspondent, mrs. steelnut, JazzBo, steelnut, rtiger2, forager.

In this family, even the Garden Gnome has a Busse

Little resingirl. Only 11, but going on 16, it seems.

PorkFest014.jpg

The support staff wanted to be ready. They didn’t trust us not to hurt ourselves; go figure.

PorkFest022.jpg

Forager already put up pics of us working (Thanks, Mark!) I have video to put up, when I figure out how. Standing on the garage roof was a little unsettling, but the Waki certainly came in handy for it’s reach.

Ah, the pork is ready.

PorkFest016.jpg

Hey, shredding that pork is hard work :D

PorkFest026.jpg

The crew waits for their just rewards

PorkFest028.jpg

A recurved blade is not the best for this application, so I finished the job with an SHBM.

PorkFest031.jpg

Let’s hope it’s enough!

PorkFest034.jpg

The crew is happy.

Pumpkins are more fun.

Hey, what gives? The crew ate my pork, drank my beer, and left behind all this tree to deal with.

All the boys got in on the fun. Nice chance to compare and contrast various blades. That Condor Golok has a great performance/price ratio. rtiger2 brought a KSF Barkie Machete, that thing is amazing. I’ll say it again, I think Scrap Yard should do a true machete in 1/8” SR77. My Waki; with a ghetto satin, the edge thinned and convexed, is a cutting and chopping machine; even better than the Ruck, thanks to it’s greater weight and reach. The best pure cutter, thanks to the wicked edge, is the Burt Foster Blue Collar Camp Knife (second from right, top). Almost as good, again due to great edge geometry, is the Ban Fusion Anorexic Battle Mistress (far left). btw, that one started as a CGFBM. He ground off the CBT.

PorkFest047.jpg

Well, that’s better, reduced the bulk a little.

That modded Waki really leaves a clean cut now. ;)

We have video, but it may take me a while to figure out how to get it onto the computer, edit, and then post. Probably won’t be for a few weeks; got other stuff going on in the near future.

Thanks again to the Hogs for their help.

We plan to go back out to our spot in the woods in fall, maybe late September or October, so watch this forum for an announcement. If you want advance notice, please EMAIL me and I will add you to the NE Ohio Busse Boys mailing list.

Good pics. Good times.

Glad no one required the medic gnome.

Sweet pics...between you guys you have quite a collection...almost as big as little foo's!!!
