Alright, tax money is almost here, I have about $300 to $400 available for my major knife purchase this year what do I get, I'm lookin' at, Nealy,Dozier,Grecco, Chavar, William Henry, or Sebenza?

Also do I buy now or go to the ECCKS,(East Coast Custom Knife Show), and see what kind of deal I can make?

Try Ed Chavar, he made me a small "Fang" with eboney scales on it...great knife , small, sharp, great multi mount kydex sheath.... and avery down to earth maker to talk to . He has many other styles to cover alot of applications. mjmcdowell

Well my vote would go to Dozier. I have one of his fixed blades and I have yet to see any knife that cuts better. I also like his simple yet elegant style. Second choice would be a Sebenza, but I'd pick a Dozier.

Geez, with Greco's outrageously low price sales he's been having recently, you can get half a dozen Greco knives with $400.00. With that kind of buying power I'd go that route if you like John's blades.
Just a thought;)...

All the best,
Mike U.

Come to the ECCKS and get inspired! You already know what the basics look like, come and enjoy the sight of so many extraordinary knives, and let that bring up ideas for something different.

Besides, that way you get to ask the rest of us knife knuts in person. :D

Your question is a bit broad. Fixed blade--folders?? Nature of intended use?

You'll have a great time at the ECCKS if you make the trip. Lots of knives, all the top makers and lots of knifeknuts from around here to meet and hang out with!:D

Hmmm...on second thought, maybe you should hold out for the ECCKS. There are few bigger thrills for a knife nut than to step into a huge convention hall full of handmade knives and all the great names in the craft with stock to sell on the spot.
Yep, definately hold out for the show. You'll be really happy you did. But, bring more money and resist the urge to buy the first killer knife you see when coming into the room.:D

All the best,
Mike U.

If you want a VERY neat, strong as an ox framelock folder, you could try a Strider SNG for $400. Something different, and semi-custom. Strider folders also seem to hold their value very well should you change your mind.

I'll second the suggestion to go to the show.
There is nothing than seeing a knife in person, and that sebbie won't go away. :)

I too have a Chavar "Fang", and love it. I plan on buying one of his "Caddis" models in the near future. All of Bud Nealy's blades that I have handled look great, I just don't own any yet, but since I work about 10 minutes from his shop, it's only a matter of time.

Anything Bud N. makes is great, his original stuff(Aikuchi) is first rate, these were really meant as Hideout/Last ditch knives,(the reason for the MCS, Multi Concealment System) the only negative thing I ever heard was that the knifes had no guards for knife fighting, it's a last ditch knife, a backup, meant to be easily concealable.

His knives, used for intended purpose, are superb knives.

I've carried on of his early Aikuchis exclusively since the mid 80's, and I've always been able to depend on it.

Unless you're real far from New York and will eat up a large portion of your money in travel and lodging, get to the show. Quite a few of the makers you have mentioned will be there. The website has a list of makers toward the bottom of the web page.

I live by an age old saying. "When in doubt, buy another Dozier". Living by such rules makes life a constantly enjoyable experience.

I've been to ECCKS before, in fact I met A.G. Russell, and I bought my first Nealy there.

I only live on the otherside of the Delaware River off Rt. 80, so NYC is only a little under 2 hours away, Hell I go to the City for good Chinese food.

Dozier.., no contest...

"Hunters seek what they [WANT].., Seekers hunt what they [NEED]"

I've always liked Doziers, liked the way they looked, the price is right, we'll see what the show has. Next question, if it's gonna be a Dozier, straight up, or folding?

I like the fixed blades. I haven't tried Bob's folders yet. I'm personally craving a Dozier Sweetwater at the moment.
