Near Loss of Matriarch

Thought I'd share this with the forum. Have been running/riding with my Matriarch since getting it from SFO a few months ago. Usually just keep it ITWB strong side when running and clipped in a jersey pocket when riding. I have noticed that the clip is pretty loose, but admit I haven't removed it to bend it.

My Matriarch managed to make its way out of my jersey today! That's right, some where along my ride, Holt's Road (Devil's Den State Park, AR). Get back to the car and ahh! Missed it right away. Simple solution... Ride back, the entire route, slowly, and hope to spot it. Found it.

But after some serious ground combing.

Sal, PLEASE consider making these in rescue orange. If it had been black, I don't think I'd have ever found it. Might want to make the clips a tad tighter as well.

Consider making yourself a lanyard out of elastic cord. The good stuff you find in rock climbing shops. Use figure-8 knots. I secure my knives in this manner when I'm rock climbing,ice-climbing, mountain biking, kayaking and rafting. I've haven't lost a knife yet. And since I'm pretty marginal at all of the above activities I spend a significant amount of time inverted.

The elastic lanyard keeps you from losing your knife but gives you the reach to properly deploy the knife. I just tuck the elastic cord in some convenient place where it will pay out freely. All it takes is minimal practice. Let me know how
you make out.

I just wanted to offer a caution to consider in tying any knife to your person, whether w/elastic or otherwise. Make sure that the cord will extend at least as far as your longest reach with either hand from the point at which it is secured. Otherwise, you run the risk of the knife stopping & your hand continuing up the blade.

You might also want to consider one of Mike Sastre's neck sheaths as a means of securing your Matriarch on your person when running/riding. They still had some in the BF store last time I was there.

I may be goin' to hell in a bucket, Babe, but at least I'm enjoyin' the ride.

My road riding is a bit smoother than the woods but here is something that may work for you. Secure the Matriarchs (or any other similar folder) end with a short and thin cord, preferably light elastic and have a light tension spring loaded alligator clip of some sort at the other end of the cord. Clip the folder in as your jersey as usual and clip the alligator clip onto the jersy pocket. If the folder works its way out of the pocket the alligator clip will be secure enough to hold onto to it until you realize it is bobbing against your side. Should you need to draw it in a pinch simply give a smart pull and you will have the folder in hand. You do need to find an alligator clip that is not too toothy and with less tension. Perhaps the ones from one of your Photons. Good luck

I'll add a second recommendation for getting one of Mike Sastre's neck sheaths. Works very well for me.

Thanks for the suggestions.

Neck sheaths just don't do it for me. A knife of any size just bangs around too much for me. Do wear a Gigand Mosquito thought, great size for neck carry.

I have though of elastic cord/550 cord, but always seem to catch it on stuff, especially when riding.
