when Titanium burns try to get it away from anything important and let it burn out. You hit it with a normal fire extinguisher, you'll just aggravate the problem.

That's according to our emergency instructions for metal fires at work. We have special extinguishers for the special response teams to use on metal fires that are made specifically for Titanium, Magnesium etc. fires

Class "D" fire extinguisher

I have gone to my local fire safety business

they are equipped to refill, recharge and test fire extinguishers.

off the shelf class D = hundreds of bucks....for huge ones
price to refill my existing 5 pounder one with the proper powder = very cheap...no diff in $ versus a normal refill.

i got one done and keep it close...just in case.
 
I extinguishd the small garbage can of Ti turnings just with a garden hose. If it was any larger then that I would have just let it burn out.
