Pulled from a Council Tool Facebook image. It's like a Plumb National and a True Temper Tomahawk had a baby. I'm hoping they harden the poll. With a big ol' National-style poll it'd seem a waste not to.

It's ground like a normal priced axe but I bet it's not gonna be that amount.

Either way I need one

Of the limited info available on it at the moment (the one shown is a prototype) it's going to be part of the Sport Utility line and was being shown in conjunction with throwing hatchets, so I expect it'll be priced fairly affordably. We'll see, though!

Every time I see a National I can't help but feel like that beautiful poll was a missed hardening opportunity on Plumb's part. Fingers crossed that Council decides to harden it. They'll listen to feedback, so by all means write them to let them know your preference!

Doesn't Council harden their axe edges using an induction coil? If so, I would think that doing the poll wouldn't be that difficult.

I think that may be the first axe I'd buy new. I've always liked nationals to begin with so who knows. They missed out by not releasing it Dec. 1st as a Christmas idea. Maybe next year....

Well, it's still in the prototype phase. Better they wait than rush it out before it's ready!

Every so often there are threads that come through here where we describe tools we want designed - this looks like an amalgamation of what gets wished for. I don’t think i’ve purchased a “new” axe (NOS yes) but if the poll is hardened then that looks very interesting.

Maybe even in two sizes would be great sellers for them.

I'd have to see one in person, but it seems to have too much taper for my taste.

In the picture the head kind of looks like a triangle with the tip cut off.

I need a closer look, but, I like this a lot better than that woodcrafter thing they brought out a couple of years ago. Two sizes would be nice. 42- any guess as to size or weight ?

Not really much of details out at the moment--they haven't even done a hard announcement of it yet. But I do know that it's intended to overlap with the new trend of hatchet throwing establishments as a secondary consideration alongside woods work, so it'll be fitting within the rule requirements for those. I'd hazard a guess at around the 1.5lbs mark or a little over. Because of the massive tooling expense for producing new patterns, I imagine this is probably their "toe in the water" for the design and if it does well for them (and if the poll is hardened I expect it will) then I wouldn't be surprised if we see boy's axe and full size versions down the road. Hard to say at this early stage, though, and that's conjecture on my part.

That wasn't a concern, it just looks a bit ugly in the picture.
Sorry Hickory N Steel, I didn't mean to make it sound like that was a concern of yours. It was the first thing I thought of when I seen that narrowed shape. So it was a concern of mine. ;)

Oh ok I see.

Now maybe it's just the angle in the picture that makes it look weird.

Sweet, now i have a reason not to buy the camp carver. If it takes as long as that one did it will be a couple years.
