I have started using pure neatsfoot oil on my bone and stag handled knives as part of periodic maintanance. I know most of you use mineral oil as I have not seen neatsfoot oil discussed. I wondered if anyone else uses this, or knows of any effects of its use, good or bad. I only use it on the handles, not for lubricating the joints or protecting the metal parts. Thanks for you input.

A lot of horse owners use it on their horses hooves(Myself included) We used it in grotesque amounts in the leather shop.
I use it on antler handles too. No problems yet.
Should work fine.

since it is a natural oil it can oxidize over time, which may cause some color changes, however in my opinion that is the great thing about natural materials.
