Neck Knife - Chain, Cord or Both?

I've used all three and running the chain through paracord works real well and won't break when you draw the knife. However if it gets caught in machinery or something like that it won't break then either. I personally like just paracord becuase it's more comfortable and you can use the strands inside it for all kind of utilities.

Just because I'm paranoid doesn't mean they're not out to get me.

I usually use break-away chain that is used for Law enforcement id badges to hang from the neck. It's slightly heavier than dog tag chain but it still will break away.Feel at ease using the dog tag chains though, they are plenty strong.I usually don't care to use unmodified para-cord around my neck because I'd prefer not to be purposely or accidently choked or accidently decapitated.I did one time use the outside shell of the para-cord with strands removed and ball chain put through the shell. It makes wearing a little more comfortable, especially if you have a hairy chest like myself,it is less likely the ball chain to snag and pinch the hairs.

I do use paracord sometimes because of comfort, but when there seems to me to be a risk of choking I use chain. for example, I have a whitewater and climbing trip to S.A. coming up, and that will be strictly chain. For comfort I sometimes use the sleeve JSP makes for its harnesses. A little bulky but effective.

Just use whatever you feel most comfortable with. If you're really worried about getting choked with it, then use the chain. A good sheath that will hold the knife securely is what really matters for neck-knife carry.
