Neck knife favorites & recommendations

another vote for the Becker Necker.
It is strong and tough enough to be used as a back up main knife.

You guys don't know how lucky you are.I don't think anyone here knows what a neck knife is.From my experience we can only get two.The CRKT F4 and the Arclite.I got an Arclite but it takes time to warm up and get used to it.Prefer a folder with a clip or belt sheath or failing that a fixed blade shoved in my boot or back pocket.Am I wierd?

another vote for the becker necker, good steel and you won't cry if it gets lost or stolen. good luck and be careful, ahgar

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the Becker Necker somewhat large to be used as a neck knife? I always got that impression.

Plus, I really wish they would have used a stainless steel for it, rather than their standard carbon steel. It's a neck knife. It's going to be worn close to the body, where perspiration can affect it. Why not go with more corrosion-resistant steel?

I have an old custom Simonich too [Pikuni]. I think it's the perfect neck knife, and I have more than a few. [neck knives, not Simoniches, sadly]
For heavy duty, the Fehrman Thru Hiker is really excellent: tough, simple and very slim. Difficult to do better than 3v with a good coating against rust. Maybe Infi...
If a magnetic sheath is OK for your uses, Bud Nealy's are really secure. But they are customs and therefore quite expensive. But there are many great ones. Any Polkowski,
Tighe or Wally Hayes should be bought on sight, if the price is half-way reasonable.

I picked up a $14 "Outdoor Life Extreme Gear" neck knife at K-Mart today. It says "420 Stainless" and "Handcrafted in China" on the blade. It is just a junker knife, but I figured I could play with it over the weekend. :D It came with a plastic sheath and one of those beaded break-away chains.

MIght be a bit big. I think of a "neck" knife as something flat and slim so that it doesn't print on your shirt. It should also be pretty light. But if I'm looking to carry for ultimate lightness or smallness, I'm probably looking at a small folder like a spyderco calypso, jr. Of course, there are also more purpose built neckers like the hideway that combine those features. The Becker is an all purpose knife. I've used it to baton through some wood, cut boxes, cut cigars and open beer bottles. I think it would also be a capable defense knife.
