I have a hunkering for a neck knife sized knife for horizontal belt carry. I'd like nice scales and sheath needs to be nice.

Benchmade hidden canyon got my eye. What other options do I have at about 100ish dollars?

I have and love the Becker bk14, a Wilder Forge necker, and Kim Breed Necker.

the crkt minimalist series of neck knives by alan folts are pretty cool. they come with good kydex sheaths with a belt attachment that can be set up for horizontal carry. they’ve got a three finger handle with g-10 scales, and a braided lanyard to give you really good control for such a small knife.

i own the bowie and the s.p.e.w. the bowie has a really tall, full belly blade. i have it on paracord as a neck knife. and the s.p.e.w. has a very pointy warncliff blade. i have set up to carry vertically behind my belt.

wanna pick up the karambit version next. looks awesome

I’m confused, do you want a neck knife or a smallish fixed blade? There’s a ton of each these days, each ranging in an assortment of sizes.

I guess I’d suggest the Tops Mini Scandi if you want a neck knife, and a Bradford Guardian 3 for a horizontal carry knife.

DW Childress knives, get a lot of knife for the money, he uses a lot of 440C and a few other steels. The sheath is not really horizontal carry but I wonder if you can work something out.

Also consider the Enzo necker, again work something for the kydex sheath ( also comes in leather sheath ).

Agreed on the Bradford g3. Just make sure you spring for the 3D scales. Worth it! A bit above your $100 spec though.

I would throw the white river caper and backpacker in there too. Backpacker can be had without scales for right around $100. I think a little below that scaleless and a little above with g10 scales. Caper is around $150 but has nice, pinned scales and stonewashed blade. Both have great ergos and s35vn steel.

If you want a more minimalist neck knife that hides easily around neck or on a belt, get their knucklehead. Comes in chisel and regular for $50 - $60ish bucks. S30V (not sure if new ones are upgraded to s35vn like the backpacker/capers. Love mine!

Good luck on your search!

I love his work (Childress). He is definitely on my radar.

don't forget to check the services offered sections on the site here....lots of great makers that can put something together for ya. I have been making and using neckers with a cross draw setup for a long time, very handy for backup blades. This one is a cleaver style in O1 and CF scales, 5.5in OAL 2.75in edge:-)

No scales but the Brous Silent Soldier Neckers come with a clip for horizontal carry.

The nicest reasonably priced knife for what you describe is probably the Guardian 3 which comes with a great leather horizontal sheath.

Although there are many custom makers on this site who could probably build you exactly what you want.

The sheath is as important or more than the knife if you're going this route IMO.

An izula, micarta scales and an armatus type kydex with pull the dot softloops is a winner in my book.

White river caper. I have the backpacker which is the same without scales. You can get G10 add ons from them or the caper come with gorgeous micarta. Their kydex sheaths are great too. The sheath can be configured to what ever carry you want.
Tops msk in good too. I had to add my own strap to make it horizontal belt carry.

Both sheaths are from white river. The top is the caper/ backpacker. Bottom is their knucklehead knife. Both great.

I also like the Guardian 3 quite a bit, and this Tactical Pterodactyl knife is great in my opinion, and maybe more of a necker in size...

I think Bradfords knives are as good as it gets and the 3 might work for you ... but I have to give a heads up to look at White Rivers Backpacker Pro with G10 scales or their Caper which is the same knife with Micarta scales ... they also offer it in a wrapped handled version ...

The Bradford is M390 the White River S35VN ... both great small knives ... and although I love my Bradford 4 and my Bradford 4.5 ... for a neck knife the White River Backpacker Pro would get my vote ... it just fits my hand better than the Bradford 3.

I made some cocobolo scales to put on an Enzo Necker 70 blade, made my own leather sheath -- and just love it. FFG blade is thinner & lighter than Guardian 3. The Kydex sheath that comes with the ready-made knife looks easily convertible to horizontal belt carry with 5 minutes of effort and 12" of paracord.
