Neck knife options.

I own a Blind Horse Tiger Knapp. It's quite flat, and has a full length handle. Pros and cons to all things, it is longer than the Izula I, and not as thick.
Once you add scales, a flat knife gets thicker, of course, but that's something to consider.
Flat=better concealment
scales=better for harder use.

another option is from Cold Steel. I have a plastic dart/dagger. It's not a knife, but made for neck carry and self-defense. I've never had to use it, but it would stab that crackhead.
TOPS knives do make lots of neck knives, you should at least check them out.

I carry a knife for so many more reasons than self-defense. Emergency seat belt cutter, I might need to cut something, stab a viscious animal, and so many others.
I've never pulled out a knife in a fight, because I have never needed to.

Lol, my frail girlish body is 5'11, 240 lbs, 14% body fat, has been power lifting for 12 years and has been in a mixed martial arts/ thai boxing gym for 5 years. as long as such said crackhead dosnt have a heater the knife will NEVER come out. :D

Then why do you want to carry a teeny little blade around your neck in the first place? :confused: It's not going to do you a whole lot of good for killing people (which, lets face it, is exactly what all this 'extreme tactical self-defense knife' junk people talk about boils down to).

In my (admittedly limited) experience carrying an Izula around, they're not very easy to get to, especially while wearing them under winter clothing, and while they work great for utility, I can't in any way see the things being meant for killing people.

You'd be better off just punching the crackhead in the friggin' face until candy comes out. :thumbup:

Heh, an Izula or Griffe also travels quite well in a back pocket. The neck position is awkward under winter clothes. However, even with a small blade, yes, the Izula would be more than adequate to "switch someone off" as it were.

As far as "extreme tactical self defense knife", a Griffe is the only one I know of which truly fits the bill. A TRUE extreme tactical self defense knife would be a bit conspicuous and likely illegal for carry in most states....

....unless you're allowed to carry a 12" Bowie where you live.....:D

This is why I'm glad my little ole redneck state has handgun carry permits...and yes, we can open carry with that permit. A big pistol on your hip in plain sight can be a powerful deterrent.

I too live in chicago. I believe that fixed blades are illegal, and folders under 2 inches are legal. I just carry what I want anyways, I figure it depends on the officer who pulls me over. I don't seem like someone who is up to no good, "I use them for work". And i also don't plan on using them for self defense purposes.

folders and fixed blades are legal up to 4 inches as long as they are visible
which means they have a pocket clip or you have a knife in a pouch or sheath on your belt

Knife fighting is an art, and whether or which of these guys prefer weapons free fighting to weapons fighting, I could frankly care less. Everyone has an opinion, and everyone feels different, but getting back to your actual question. My dad was a Navy S.E.A.L, and thus begun my learning of knife play. If you can actually knife fight, not just do MMA/boxing (not that that is not effective), then carry a neck knife. You won't need to big of anything to defend yourself, if you are skilled in killing with it. If you are not, and just a big bad dangerous kinda man, you might want to consider something bigger, and/or more aggressive. For me, a Buck.Mayo Kaala works perfect. I love it because its small enough to never be heavy, uncomfortable, or show, and yet balanced well enough to throw, and the S30V blade is razor sharp. No it is not intimidating, but if it ever has to come out, I intend on it being into the other man before he ever sees it, so that won't matter any.I do enjoy Jujitsu, and so use of the knife, would, as you said, only be if there was a gun involved, or maybe 5+ thugs. I do not wanna go to prison for killing 5 guys in self defense, so I would much prefer to use my body, and only the knife if I had to in order to win.Just another opinion, and you have lots of good ones on here, best of luck in Chicago!

Nicely said but if im getting jumped by 5 guys the last thing im thinking about is going to jail. killing 5 thugs and being in jail sounds much better then me or one of my family members being dead. But I do generally agree with everything you said.

If you want a weapon with a tried and true record of killing people i'd get a shank. Get one custom made. But a knife? Uhuh. I'd want something that make a lot of deep holes in someones body really quick.

Ha, yes actually that is what I meant to say.. I would avoid using the knife because I wanted to stay out of jail, unless it was several guys. Safety of family,friends, and self would come first, sorry to confuse on that point,and thatnks! :)

Ok guys, I went with something a little outside the box. Probably not the "style" of about 90% of you in here but I love it. Stay tuned to see what it is ;)

Also, Im going to try my first go at kydex sheath making. Afting watching one tutorial, it looks rediculously easy. Pretty much the only variable is where to put the last set of grommets to get the perfect combo of keeping the blade in secure but keeping it loose enough to deploy quick.

Pics of both my new (big) neck knife and first run with Kydex in about a week or so...

EDIT: Ill give one hint, it will be 7'' long and 1.4'' at its widest...

I just put this together yesterday, it's a cheap blank from a online dealer and some purple heart.
