Neck Knife Recommendations Requested

As the title of this post states, I'd appreciate recommendations on custom makers I should look at for a superior quality neck knife. A production knife might also be acceptable if it's top notch quality.

The perfect "system" would be one that I'd forget I'm wearing due to its comfort in design.

Thanks,

Barnaby

Just got my Neil Blackwood Tanto Neck Knife, and it is sweeeet. He built a sheath that hangs from an inside suit jacket pocket. It's very flat and weighs less than my wallet, so you really can't tell it's there and neither can folks walking by. 'Course if I keep buying knives it's gonna weigh more than my wallet

Mine is A2 tool steel. Very tough and very sharp. It's got a few scratches already but the finish was perfect when I got it. I bought this knife for fun. If you want a serious self defense tool check out his hawkbill.

Neil was a great dealer too. He spent close to an hour with me on the phone, sent about a dozen emails letting me know the status and asking how I liked it, and delivered it earlier than promised.

There are many excellent ones to choose from and it very much depends on your personal preferences. My favorites include Nealy's Pesh Kabz [ 2 sizes available], Brian Tighe , Al Polkowski and Greg Lightfoot. They are all superb but Nealy's carry system is extremely versatile, and Greg is now offering a versatile mcs too.

I make a few models of the neck knife and am open to changes. I use mostly 52100 and am familiar with several of the other steels. If you will check out the neck knife posts for this month, there are a lot of knives and custom knife makers to choose from.

Thanks David!
Your A2 version is unique in that I usually make them out of D2! I made a similar IJP (Inside the Jacket Pocket

) sheath for another forum member's Hawkbill. They do hide the knife quite well and provide instant access.
I'm glad your USING that knife! Those are not scratches, they are beauty marks!!!!!

Check out Ray Kirk. http://www.tah-usa.net/raker/ I gave one to a friend of mine ('lil blue2) and missed it a bunch. Fortunately, he needed something with a slightly longer blade, so I got that one back, and gave him a different knife with a longer blade. It really wears well as a neck knife. It has no handle scales (but i think you can get them) but the handle is a nice length, and nicely rounded and very comfy. It will stand up to hard use. The best part of these is the price, you get far more than what you pay for, they are a steal.

Geez, im sure glad I got mine back

Thanks to everyone so far who has offered their advice and opinions. It's really been helpful. At the moment I'm leaning towards a Bud Nealy Small Tung Pan, but I'll sleep on it (not the knife) and make a final decision by tomorrow.

Thanks to all! Bladeforums is the greatest!

You might check out Bob Dozier's neck knife.
I bought mine about 2 years ago and have used it for cutting up tons of cardboard.
I still haven't had to touch up the edge and it still shaves.

I don't know what the current price is, but it cost $95 when I bought it.

I'm a big fan of neck knives also. IMO all the knives previously mentioned are fine knives. Thanks to James and Steve for posting Lynn Griffith's site - I surfed over and checked out his blades - I loved all of them !

Though not neck knives, I really liked the Marshall, and the Patrolman.

Thanks again to all those who offered their fine suggestions. I was certainly not an easy decision, but the winner is Bud Nealy's Small Tung Pan. Got it today and it sure feel right, no regrets, and a recommendation from me to anyone else considering such a purchase.

Actually Al, I have a Patrolman and a Sniper. They really do make for good neck carry. Very light wieght. They may look a bit large for neck carry, but they arent.

Can't go wrong with a Nealy, Barnaby.

Thanks for the information Richard. I've decided now to order one of these 2, but can't decide which one. Maybe I'll have to order both !

The Sniper-Marksman makes one heck of a set!!
I have mentioned in many other threads that my Sniper has been through hell and is still going strong. I just cant bring myself to do the same with the Marksman but I'm sure it would handle it.
