Neck knife recommendations

I don't even see a price range here. I hope he gets something from Pakistan that is non-returnable.

On the other hand, if anybody wants a really good, general-purpose neck knife, my first suggestion would be a White River M1, $135 to $175 at KnifeCenter. Good sheath. Excellent, all-around S35VN steel. A variety of handle options. But I have about 10 other good neck knives in various shapes, sizes, steels, prices, ...

I really like the look of that White River

David Mary makes some great edc/neckers of different shapes/sizes/steels. I have one from him in AEB-L that is just great, and another on the way. Adam Kornalski (AK knives) here on the forums makes a couple of great ones too. The one I have from him is M2 and is an excellent knife.

Figure out a size/shape/price and go from there. Good luck.

Personally, I’d have disassociated myself from this quest as soon as he brought ‘slashing tires safely’ into the conversation. But that’s just me. Everyday tasks? Great. Self defense? Eh - life isn’t a Ryan Reynolds movie, but whatever. Destruction of property? Fuggeddabowdit.

To be fair, I don’t think he has the intention of actually slashing tires, just that he thinks that if you can slash a tire and not hurt yourself, it’s probably good for everything else you might put the knife through. But, I agree, it’s a strange thing to verbalize let alone aspire to

TOPS Prather War Bowie or Becker BK-9...no question.

IMO Unobtrusive eliminates most of the knives listed, but I am one of those guys who can’t get used to anything hanging from my neck.
The only fixed blade I have that is small enough that I could tolerate and is still useful my NCC Micro Kiri. Great utility knife.

Anything I use it for requires not much more than a pinch between the index finger and thumb, but I can clamp down on it and push hard enough do some serious work with the tip or chisel edge. For me it’s a heavy duty utility knife.

Kiridashis are indeed useful, put in Japanese carpenters markers knife and you'll come up with lots of nice much cheaper small Kiridashis with and without handles.

Here's a very good one for circa 18 dollars (US) think I'll get one cheers Lee D!

I have one exactly like this one. Highly recommend, excellent knife.
Use for wood carving.

I didn't adapt well to using Morakniv Eldris. I found it too small for my hand, even using the scabbard as a cable extender.

If this guys main concern is whether or not the knife can capably slash tires, perhaps you need to rethink the whole giving him a knife thing. Just send him some catalogs from SMKW and BudK and tell him to have at it.....
I haven't read most of this thread . . .Let me say explicitly here that tire slashing is nothing I want to be associated with in any way.

Marttiini Lynx Lumberjack. But seriously, counsel your friend out of thinking of a knife as an instrument of self defense. And have you ever tried to slash a steel-belted radial with a knife?
