Okay, I realize that this is probably a really stupid idea, but it occurred to me yesterday as I was fumbling around in my kitchen drawer looking for a bottle opener. I enjoy an occasional adult beverage
, but due to my poor organizational habits and infrequent consumption I sometimes find myself without an appropriate tool for opening old-fashioned (i.e., non twist-off) bottles. I realize that there are any number of improvisational methods that can be used to open beverage containers if ones thirst is great enough, but I couldnt help but think that it would be pretty nifty to have a bottle opener that was readily available at all times (yeah, I know
would it really kill me to just carry an SAK with a cap lifter?). Ive been on a bit of a neck knife kick lately, and it occurred to me that if the cutouts in the handle of one of my skeletonized blades (e.g., an ArcLite) were configured slightly differently it would make a dandy little bottle opener that could be easily carried around ones neck (I guess Ive seen Cool Hand Luke too many times). Now, I remember that Kershaw marketed a hawksbill folder a while back with a bottle opener cutout that doubled as a thumb-opening device and Ive heard (facetious?) references to using the Wave feature on Emerson knives to open bottles
Ive just never heard of a neck knife that can multi-task in this particular fashion. It obviously wouldnt be a good idea to wrap your hand around a bare blade just to extract some liquid refreshment, but it seems that the Kydex sheath that most neckers use would provide ample protection. So guys
is any one aware of any such product on the market? Or an existing product that could be easily modified to function this way? Inquiring (and thirsty) minds want to know
