TAZ,

I put mine in the spine out near the tip like a gut hook! This allowed it to be used reversed so you would push DOWN with the handle. This made whole thing safer for those enjoying more than one!!!! Not me of course.....I'm talking about my fishing buddies

Ron,

Man it's great to see you coming out with some new products- the mini X-ray would be awesome, except if it has any sort of serrations on it, same thing for the neck knife. Please, no serrations. They've stopped me from buying many models of knives that I would have considered buying otherwise. Please don't put serrations on the Mini X-ray! Please?

In college I learned I had the rare ability to open bottles with my teeth. Chicks really go for it to... my wife thinks it is cool anyway. She says that is why she married me.

Interesting stuff, Taz! I like the look of the second set of drawings (with the opener located near the choil), but I share stjames’ concerns about the possibility of the blade inadvertently ending up in your hand

. The last two drawings in your first set of sketches are closer to what I had in mind, but I guess that any of the designs would work. Let me know if you decide you’d like to pursue this “Bottleneck” project…I think I’d like to look into getting one.

Neil, will it affect tip strength near the tip? I put it at the choil cuz I thought it would be stronger there
smile.gif
I could flip it over and put it in the back of the blade, near where the handle ends. U have a pic or drawing of yours thats in the lake, neil?? I'll be willing to give this a go if people are really interested

A long time friend of mine, Knifemaker Mike Thourot, has been putting bottle openers on nearly all of his models since 1969. I used to argue that "twist-offs" had made these extinct. . . he pointed to Canadian beer as the last great hold out. . . don't really know if that still holds true or not.

I followed suit and offered many knives during the '80's that had this feature. Very, very handy. In fact, many of my early fighters had this feature in the form of a blade catch/bottle opener on the spine. It was somewhat imilar to our newest model seen here on the Busse Combat forum.

We have recently brought one of these smaller, older models back and will be debuting it on the Busse Combat Forum. I will try to post pictures here when it becomes available.

I remember quite a few makers who incorporated this into their designs during the '70's and 80's. It was a great idea then, and it is a great idea now.

The Spanish Knife company, Aitor, has made skeletonized multi-function knives for a number of years. Here is a page with a couple of their skinners. Although not set up as neck knives, they could be easily adapted. I just don't know how comfortable the pointy butt would be against the skin. Personally, I rather like SOG's version myself.

Jerry:

Most Canadian beer has twist off caps (the major brands). BUT, there are a large number of microbreweries all over the place, and many of these don't use twist-off tops. I hate twist offs! I always loved using bottle openers, and botle openers came in as many varieties and colors as knives do! Bring back the need for bottle openers, so that we can have bottle opener knives too!

If thye would just let us import Israeli rifles, which have bottle openers on them, we wouldn't need to misuse our knives this way
