Neck knife

Trying to figure which fixed blade neck knife to buy. I've been leaning towards the izula or bk14. Just wanted to get some other suggestions and opinions. Let me know

How do you plan to carry it and what will you be using it for?

I'm a sucker for neck knives (I own several) but I learned early on that they are tedious to deploy if carried on a chain under the shirt. More often than not I would simply pull the folder out of my pocket first. And I can't think of a realistic scenario where I would ever need a "backup" to my folder.

This will be in the outside of my shirt while hiking, fishing ,hunting and some times work (inside at work) but will mainly be a work horse knife size is not a huge concern big or small I can work with it

For a cheaper option, the CRKT is a decent choice...

I've been searching for the same myself. I have no interest is neck carry, I plan on front right pocket. Easy conceal with the proper sheath and quicker deployment. Becker bk11 might be it for me but the handle is not for everyone. For a more traditional style, there is the BRK Necker. Beyond that, there are tons of custom knife makers on the exchange. I'm interested in hearing others on this too.

I don't have a huge amount of experience with neck knives, but I do like the Kabar Becker BK-24 (or the BK-14). Just put some scales on it. I find these knives less able to cut effectively than a slip joint (and we're talking about a fixed blade here...) because of the skeletonized handle. Put some handles on it and you'll be happy. Still will be a three finger knife.

Neck knives... have a couple customs (with handles), and a couple skeletonized.

I'm a medium frame guy and love the Izzie but I find it (with scales) a bit bulky for pocket carry. The Candiru disappears in your pocket. In fact it easily conceals just about anywhere; boots, under the belt, in the pocket, EDC pouch, etc. I highly recommend getting the Candiru scales. They totally change the ergonomics for the better.

Be aware that large guys are probably going to find the purchase on a Candiru a challenge. In my hand it's a 2-1/2 finger grip at best. But it performs like a much larger knife.

I'm also a fan of the Blackjack 155 series. It's on the larger side (3" blade) but a fair price for 154CM goodness. The only downside is that the sheath leaves a lot to be desired.

If you're looking for a lighter (and cheaper) alternative I like the Boker Plus Tom Krein Grasshopper. It's small, ultra light, and carries easily on a chain. The 440C is good enough for light duty.

I cannot think of a realistic scenario either, but who said that it had to be realistic. Heck yea he needs a neck knife. It is not easy to carry 4 or 5 knives without having one around your neck. That is scenario enough for me.

LOL! Fair enough. I guess I live in the real world where it's not necessary to carry 4 or 5 knives. A folder, a SAK, and a 9mm cover most contingencies.

Sounds like you have it covered pretty well. My Glock 23 is never far from my side either. I guess I am sicker than most, but that is nothing new. Enjoy:)

If you're willing to wait a while I believe that SURVIVE KNIVES! is coming out with a gen. 2 version of their neck knife which incorporates an actual handle made out of micarta(?) Please correct me if I'm wrong.

You should definitely check out the Bark River Bravo necker 1 and 2. You get a bunch of color options for the blade itself and a ton more for the optional handle. Its gonna be my next neck knife.

I think that is correct. The pre-orders are closed, but once these are done and shipped, they should be available.

I like neck carry when in my kayak, crouched in front of a campfire, or belted into a vehicle. It can be a pita in other scenarios, but it's not rare that my neckers move from neck to belt to boot. No law saying they have to stay in one place.

My favorite is a custom by Mark Wohlwend. It's a gem. A great shape, a great grind, and the micarta handles feel divine. When I'm out in my boat or camping, this is always going to be the one I take. I think it's a one-off and I would sell my left hand before selling this knife.

I have a tiny Wohlwend tin knife that stays in my tiny PSK tin. I need to plastidip the handle as the edges are sharp and the point on the beard needs to be knocked off. But it's cool and harpoony-looking!

I own a couple of Izula Is (no handles) and I consider them a "perfect" knife; either for neck or belt carry. One goes into the field with me on my belt for work, and one stays in my big PSK. Everyone should own an Izula, and I could easily see someone buying one and then never needing any other knife. I love the color variety.

I have a Becker BK-11 that I love and contrary to what many say, the bottle opener is very useful and doesn't get in my way. I fattened mine with a leather and hemp wrap, and the grip is nice. I used and liked the factory sheath but I had a custom scout-carry belt sheath made by Nix Leather that is amazing. This knife is semi-retired simply because I like the Izula blade shape more.

My backup knife on my work boots is a Candiru. The thing is so damn cool looking and well made. It never gets used and that makes me sad, so I'm seriously thinking that I'll get the scales (everyone raves about them) and a KFS pocket sheath and this will become my first pocket FB.

I've got a Becker BK-13 that doesn't get used much as at that point things are getting a little small for my hands. My kids each got one as their first knives and they used the living bajingles out of them.

I recieved a KA-BAR Piggyback for Christmas and with several coats of plastidip on the handle, it's fantastic in hand. I love the profile, it's a really great and versatile size, and damn is it ever slicy. Not quite sure what the long-term plan is, and I probably won't have it figured out before the next neck knife thread appears :D

I don't have a recommendation because there are so many variables w.r.t. cost, use, sharpening experience, and aesthetic preferences. Maybe "just don't plan on buying only one" is the best recommendation!

Well I ended up getting a great deal on a venom green izula so we will see how it goes

Are you getting handles for it? The only necker I have is the spartan enyo, it works well enough but I'm thinking of getting a Tek-lok to clip it on my belt, I really don't care for neck carry

If you want a good neck knife, I highly recommend contacting Richard J here on the forum. He makes some really fantastic neckers.
Take a look here...
