I like neck carry when in my kayak, crouched in front of a campfire, or belted into a vehicle. It can be a pita in other scenarios, but it's not rare that my neckers move from neck to belt to boot. No law saying they have to stay in one place.
My favorite is a custom by Mark Wohlwend. It's a gem. A great shape, a great grind, and the micarta handles feel divine. When I'm out in my boat or camping, this is always going to be the one I take. I think it's a one-off and I would sell my left hand before selling this knife.
I have a tiny Wohlwend tin knife that stays in my tiny PSK tin. I need to plastidip the handle as the edges are sharp and the point on the beard needs to be knocked off. But it's cool and harpoony-looking!
I own a couple of Izula Is (no handles) and I consider them a "perfect" knife; either for neck or belt carry. One goes into the field with me on my belt for work, and one stays in my big PSK. Everyone should own an Izula, and I could easily see someone buying one and then never needing any other knife. I love the color variety.
I have a Becker BK-11 that I love and contrary to what many say, the bottle opener is very useful and doesn't get in my way. I fattened mine with a leather and hemp wrap, and the grip is nice. I used and liked the factory sheath but I had a custom scout-carry belt sheath made by Nix Leather that is amazing. This knife is semi-retired simply because I like the Izula blade shape more.
My backup knife on my work boots is a Candiru. The thing is so damn cool looking and well made. It never gets used and that makes me sad, so I'm seriously thinking that I'll get the scales (everyone raves about them) and a KFS pocket sheath and this will become my first pocket FB.
I've got a Becker BK-13 that doesn't get used much as at that point things are getting a little small for my hands. My kids each got one as their first knives and they used the living bajingles out of them.
I recieved a KA-BAR Piggyback for Christmas and with several coats of plastidip on the handle, it's fantastic in hand. I love the profile, it's a really great and versatile size, and damn is it ever slicy. Not quite sure what the long-term plan is, and I probably won't have it figured out before the next neck knife thread appears
I don't have a recommendation because there are so many variables w.r.t. cost, use, sharpening experience, and aesthetic preferences. Maybe "just don't plan on buying only one" is the best recommendation!
