Hi again, Is a neck knife a good idea in the first place, or is it a fad product? Any feelings. Is this Spyderco mentioned on my previous posting too small? I would like some information and recommendations, please.
My every day carry is the Kershaw "Onion" line. Three different sizes.

Hello Prof.Ed, and welcome to BladeForums. I think the neck knife (as a viable mode of knife carry) has certainly passed the test of time to be considered more than a fad. It's a great way to carry a knife, and depending on how you'll be dressed on a particular day, it may be the only suitable way to carry one.

The one time I always have one on is when I go jogging. I guess I could clip a folder to my running shorts, but my Arclite fits the bill perfectly: it's light, stainless steel (not totally impervious to rust, but a little maintenance takes care of that), and cost me about $20.00, so if it's lost it won't break me to replace it.

I'd encourage you to look around for some, as there are some great designs for this mode of knife carry. geegee

I love my Outdoor edge wedge/wedgeII neckers! The wedge II is especially comfortable to handle, but the wedge is no slouch for such a small knife either.

Prof,

I believe the neck knife is a great way to carry. I carry a Busse Assault Shaker and TOPs Night Chaser as neck knives one or the other every day 7/24s. As GG spoke of, you can always have it handy. I usually have a large folder or fixed blade on my belt, but he neck is always there.

I have found that is the most carried, but least used. Of course, this is because I carry the neck knife and others as well. If only the neck knife is carried, it will see all the use.

There has been some discussion regarding the use of neck knives around or in water. ie, Should the neck cord become entangled, freeing yourself could be difficult, or perhaps keeping your head underwater. There are nylon paracord sheaths with ball chain, which is supposed to break if grabbed or entangled that should solve this problem. I use paracord only.

And a host of others all have neck knives.

Good luck

Welcome to the Forums Prof.Ed. GeeGee is right on the money in His reply. The Arclite is a good choice,as are the Livesay Woo,EKI La Griffe, and many, many others.I am currently wearing an EKI La Griffe.tom.:)

I am very fond of neck knives, and strongly recommend them.

Fad or no fad, if something works, you go with it.

My EDC is either a Spyderco combo Delica or a Benchmade 555S Mini Griptilian, but I always have either a CRKT Neck Peck or a Cold Steel Spike on a neck cord.

I also have a Benchmade TK-1 "Tether Knife" but I generally don't wear it. It's sort of kept as a pride and joy thing. It's just so cool to hold! :p

I don't know if neck knives are a fad or not, but I've been wearing one as part of my EDC for the last couple of years. Here's my current rotation:
Monday - M. Carter (hand forged)
Tuesday - Busse Combat AS
Wednesday - Crawford Tanto
Thursday - Crawford Drop point
Friday - S. Corkum (neck shobu)
Saturday - M. Carter (Muteki)

:D :D :D
