What are some good choices for a neck knife? So far I have only looked at the becker necker and a black jack neck knife.

I currently use a Mora CL2. Great size and lightweight. I don't ever seeing myself replacing it with another knife.

I am interested in the Buck Mayo Kaala. Its s30v blade and handle!! Has lightening cutout holes, and comes in at 1.9oz. This knife can be had for 60$. Not a bad overall package IMO. 3 1/8" blade.

(production knives):

I wear a Cold Steel Counter Tac II in town, but it's purely for SD.

For fishing, and other repetitive small tasks, I like a couple models of the CRKT minimalists, also the CRKT Dogfish, Mtech makes a very small razor sharp necker, the Buck Smidgen is even smaller, Condor Tangara is pretty good, especially for cutting line/rope. Becker also makes the BK-13 with neck sheath. Bigger than those are the Cold Steel Mini Tac series, I like the Skinner. If you need something bigger you can punish more than those for general camp activities, going to be hard to beat Necker/Eskabar/Izula, though.

My favorites are the HAK (HideAwayKnife), Emerson La Griffe, & Spyderco Swick (The discontinued SPOT is nice, too). However, I carry a neck knife as a 2nd/3rd use weapon, not as a handy FB.

If you're looking for a handy FB to use, there're quite a few nice ones to choose from:

Buck/Mayo Kaala
ESEE Izula
CRKT/Folts Minimalist (The blade steel isn't that good, but the knife's a nice design).
Tops Shango

Of course, there're quite a few custom knife makers that make some nice ones, too.

Murray Carter neck knives are the best you can get. Anything else is just settling!

Thanks for all of your input guys. I don't know how much I will like a neck knife yet so I didn't want to spend to much. I just ordered a bk14. If I like it I will look into a swamp rat or emerson. Again thanks guys.

If you want a small neck knife that is inexpensive check out the Smith and Wesson it is a tanto style blade, it has a whistle built in to the case for joggers .

After looking at all these S30V options it's hard to make this next suggestion but I still like the Cold Steel Super Edge. It's AUS 8 but the thing is tiny and the sheath has never failed me. I go mine for under $20.

I really like my ESEE Izula. I leave the handle plain, no paracord wrap, no scales and using the stock sheath, it rides really well on a paracord lanyard. Since I use it more as a last ditch type tool, I don't mind the handle not being super thick and comfy. But honestly, even having large hands, I am comfortable using this knife long-term with no issue.

I don't know what Rowan does to the 1095 when it's heat-treated, but whatever magic they do, it works. These ESEE knives hold an edge for a long time, are super durable and just cut like nobody's business. I'm sold.

Yeah I have one, good choice for last ditch self defense, but not much good for anything else. Can't even whittle with it.
