Neck knives - gimmicky or useful?

I have a BHK lil muk and love it. its the perfect size for most things. I don't edc it around my neck but I do carry it around my neck when I'm fishing or camping and find it very convenient. I don't have any problems taking it in and out of the sheath with one hand.

Whatever floats yer boat. I have a couple of Izula 2's. One for pocket carry and one dedicated for neck, in that retina burning orange that so many hate. I can tuck a necker into my jacket or shirt and forget about it. No snagging on branches etc. I have many outdoor interests and one of them is metal detecting. This usually entails a detector in one hand and a shovel in another. So I already have enough snag hassles in hand beside glasses and a hat. The less snagging crap the better for me. I usually plow through with the shovel leading. And do the Father, Son, Holy Ghost with my shovel as I get really sick of eating spider webs and or having them crawling across my neck and face. So a good necker basicly gets forgotten by me until needed.

I get very enthusiastic, in praising the usefulness, of a small, inconspicuous fixed blade, for general EDC chores. With that being said, while I own an Izula, it gets carried on the belt. I get no odd looks, or comments, seeing as it resides under my untucked shirt, like my other small fixed blades. I like the size of these neck knives, and own several, but they are more useful, for me, on the belt, or in the pocket. Can't stand them around my neck, but that's just preference.

The only time I carry a neck knife is when I canoe or kayak. Otherwise, I much prefer a regular folder, or my Dozier K42 (2.5" Wharncliffe Blade in CPM 154) on a horizonatal kydex belt sheath. I'm not sold on the whole idea of neck knives except under very limited usage situations.
