Hey all, I'm getting really interested in neck knives. I've got a Cold Steel Mini Culloden, that I just really don't care for. What neck knives do you guys like? I've been looking at the Camillus Arclite, some of the Newt Livesay knives, and a few others, I think. I'm looking mainly for production knives, from the usual makers, etc.
Thanks!

Holy poop on a stick, I think I found my neck knife. That looks great!

For right now, check out the Emerson/Perrin LaGriffe. I prefer it over the Arclite since it seems to be more secure in the hand.

None of the production knives really cought my eye. So I ordered a
Custom with Damascus Blade, Ti handles, with a length of 2.25 blade, 3" handle. Too bad i have to wait till summer to get it :(

Check out the following thoroughly..

www.bladeart.com
www.knifeart.com
www.arizonacustomknives.com

All of them will have custom neck knives ranging from $50 - $200.

On the high end you can get a Pikuni which is most excellent.

Mid Range check out Murry Carter and Kit Carson.

Low range the skys the limit, between those 3 places there are probably 30 or more custom neckers in the $120 or less range.

If you don't mind the politics behind the maker check out the Magnum Monks from Allen Blade that Bladeart has. Allen makes a kick butt sheath that can be worn as a neck knife or on the belt and his knives are very well respected all for a $100.

I think choices is a buzzword when you're talking neck knives.

My personal favorite is my Blackwood Neck Ninja HD, what a knife!! But at ~$250 it would be out of your desired spending range.

Have fun!

BTW: Check out the Shane Sibert Flash that Larry has at Bladeart. I have been meaning to buy it for months and always spent my money on other stuff first. At $170 it's wicked indeed. (Look in the "Miscellaneous" section under custom knives.

[insert shameless picture of Blackwood here]

T.L. Hearn makes a neck knife that's hard to beat...

Wharncliffe blade w/micarta slabs, all in a great kydex sheath. You can get 'em for $100, or less if you look around.

Otherwise I'm interested in the Striders.

Try the Boker Bud Nealy... well priced and good quality. The carrying system is suited for both neck carry and several others; IWB, belt, upside down, horizontal, etc.

I have the spearpoint version with cocobolo handles (less tactical, more classy look). Since the design is very slim, I carry this knife a lot.

Check here:

Hope this helps...

I use a Camillus Mini-Talon, and absolutely adore the knife. It's tiny, but cuts like crazy.

But if I were to buy a new neck knife, which I do plan on, it would be a Busse Assault Shaker. Damn that thing looks wicked!!! :D

I am carrying a Darrel Ralph Krait Boot/neck knife made of CPM-420v and has CF handles. Here is a pic from Les Robertson's site of the same knife.

I do not want to mention those already mentioned, but the Benchmade Tether knives seemed pretty nice when I handled them. I own several livesays that have worked out well. Some people like the MOD neck knife others the Microtech Medallion, just throwing out ideas here, not vouching for knives I have not used.

I've had a hard time finding one's I like as well. However, the Carson F4 is awesome. Very thin, light and an excellent cutter, mine is in S90V.

Second, the Dozier Canoe has found it's way around my neck lately. I like this one due to the large handle and small blade. Call me crazy, but this is my favorite potato peeler! It's excellent in the cutting areana as well, D2 steel. My only gripe is that it's a tad heavy, but the cord it comes with is fairly large in diameter, so it displaces the weight well.

Here's a pic of the Canoe that I borrowed from AG Russell. Mine has Rucarta, or a natural brown color, this one just happens to be black.

Hello BryanH If your looking for a good solid neck knife that has good ergonomics for carry, grip, tatical, and basic utility, then i would invest in the Emerson Lagriff . Read the review if this knife at Don Rearics web page. Also if your looking for somthing with a drop point design well made and cheap price wise get any any of the CRKT stiff kiss series good bang for the buck!

For a large neck knife, take a look at the Spyderco Moran drop point (VG10 steel).
If you want something a good bit smaller, check out the Meyerco Buddy System (AUS 8 steel).
In between the Camillus Arclite, and CRK&T F4 and Stiff Kiss MDP, are worth a look.

Buzz - I have an AS. Great little knife, you'll love it. It's the only neck knife you'll find that uses 1/4" stock! :) I'm one who doesn't like neckers that don't have scales, but the AS is so thick that it fills the hand.

Other neckers I like:

Simonich Pikuni
Carson F4
Ralph ArcLite
Murray Carter
Camillus Mini Talon

Man, how did you know I was thinking about this very same topic? Think I might start with an Camillus arclite and a CRKT F4 and work my way up to a shaker.

I'm seriously looking at the Emerson La Griffe myself. I just wish it wasn't chisel ground. The Spyderco/Perrin SPOT looks good too. The custom Fred Perrin La Griffe looks good, but stainless would be a plus for a neck knife. A cheaper blade of this type is the CRKT Bear Claw.

I like the Newt Livesay N.R.G.S. It has accompanied me on a lot of fishing trips.

I also really like my neck knife by Ray Kirk. He does excellent work in forged 52100 at great prices. He is one of the best kept secrets in the custom knife arena.

I don't yet have a kydex neck sheath for it, but I think my Ed Caffrey EBK is going to be a favorite necker when I get a rig for it. What a cutter!

I have to agree with the recommendation for the Busse Assault Shaker, I carry mine everyday. I usually forget I'm even wearing it.

Good luck on your decision. :D
