Who makes or can make a near indestructable plain carbon steel neck knife that can whittle and cut well with a blade(end of handle to tip) 2 7/8" long or slightly shorter? It would be nice if it didn't cost an arm and a leg either (a little over $100 at most). I have owned or seen short blades that were either indestructable or that cut well but not both. Why can't someone make a short blade wide enough to get a thin enough edge to cut well after starting with a thick enough blade to be decently tough like they do on the longer blades,or does someone?
Same question for a 4" or so belt sheath knife (at higher cost probably).
Thanks for any suggestions.

You may want to drop a line or check out aablades, a member here on the blade forums. He makes some awesome neck knives. So does David Winston, another Blade Forums member

I feel your pain.;)

It seems the current trend is to make super-thick "indestructable" neck knives (as if it were hard to break a 3" blade). I think thin neck knives of good quality steel would be a good idea.

Cold Steel makes thin ones but the steel is iffy.
I kinda like my CRKT Ryan Plan B but, again, the steel is iffy.
Surprisingly enough my SOG Outline that I paid $20 for is rather useful and cuts rather well.

Let's skip the bullet-proof 1/4" blades and someone put out a nice 1/16" neck knife of D-2.

Actually, you should try the A.G. Russel Woodswalker with the neck sheath. It's a DARN good knife. We've been using it in the kitchen for about a year and it's a supreme cutter.

This is a good chance for me to show off what the mail man brought me today. A Neck Kneedle by aablades, shown next to an MT. :)

Showoff!;)

WTF? Does that Kneedle even cut? It's pretty, but it looks like a shoehorn!:p

 Hey yeah it cuts!! It's got a great cutting edge and the best part is you don't even know your wearing it. It's the first neck knife I will carry everyday.

Holy dog-phucking, neck-hanging railroad spikes, Batman! Where do I sign up?

Website?

Gimme! Gimme!

If you go to the exchange, you will see a thread titled KNeck Kneedles, post there and drop him a line. There was a small list of about 5 of us that wanted one, and he wiped out 9. He wiped them out pretty fast for us, so if there is one you want and its gone, I am sure he would make one similar.

Thanks. I'll have to drop him a line.:)

Jens Anso makes some nice small pieces, I think he has some for sale in the makers forum right now - May be a little over your price for his regular line but he does a run of "one off's" every now and then and they are fairly cheap.

I would higly recommend an Allen Blade Chipmunk, in 1095 they run about $60 - I have one in Talonite and it's about $100. He has a bad reputation as a maker but an ad in the Wanted section could score one for you on the secondary market.

I would whole heartedly secong the suggestion for the Dozier Razorback but it's $145 and worth every penny of it!

Here are a few other makers to look at:

Webb & Fisher
Arno Bernard
Gary Bradburn
RW Clark
Mike Irie
JR Johnson (Mini Bowies are sweet!!)
Kurt Meerdink
TL Hearn

All make small fixed blades for around or less than $100...

Man, neck knives are the one thing you should have no problem finding in a custom for that price :D

My EDC necker is a Livesay Woo. I like to give them as gifts to friends in my "community".

Just got the Spyderco Ronin. Hair shaving out the box and real comfotable neck carry. Check it out!:)

I'll second Newt Livesay's knives. He makes GREAT neck knives and they are WAY, WAY under the amount you want to spend. (a woo is $25!)

Here's a link for ya:

http://www.newtlivesay.com/NL-neck_knives.htm

Be sure to take a look at the woo, little pecker, bow hunt'n buddy, G-45, SOP and NRGS. I have owned many of Newt's knives. They have all been made of great materials, functioned perfectly and they were all a great value! Newt likes to use 1095 carbon steel, and he is a master at heat treating that stuff - the knives hold an excellent edge. (sometimes they come to you dull as a ruler, but once they're sharp, they stay that way a while.)

Good luck in finding exactly what you want.
