For a knife worn around the neck with a lanyard, what are your thoughts on appropriate length and handle thickness?

I cord wrap most of my neck knives, and have used 1/4" micarta scales in the past. I try to keep the overall length at 6" or less.

My neck knives are usually around four and a half inches long. I like to keep the thickness of the knife and sheath package below half inch at the thickest part.

For a tactical style neck knife I would try to keep the whole thing under seven inches and as thin as you can make it for concealment.

As a user of neck knives - I like them to be about 6.5" total length. Blade length about 2.5 - 3". I really like 1/8" thickness on a necker. Adds to the robustness of the knife and gives some purchase if using bare handles. For the ones with scales, I like a thin scale: 1/8" G10 or mircata. You don't see a lot of neckers with thin scales and yet they are quite nice to hold. Makes a good niche!
