Neck Sheaths...

I have recently been introduced to carrying my knife in a neck sheath and find that I really like to carry it this way, however it makes me feel a little self concious. Do any of you actually use neck knife carry as an everyday method of carry?

Hi Phrede...

I've been using and making neck knife sheaths for quite some time now,, and I'm starting to really enjoy them.

There was a point in time where I wasn't so sure from a defensive standpoint that they would be of much use,,but I'm starting to change my tune a little...

When wearing jogging pants I especially like to carry my NK,, as it doesn't sag my pants,, or if I don't have pockets...
They can be quite a handy little item to have around...

There are some downfalls as well as some inherent dangers with strangulation.

You fellows that wear Errr Umm neck ties on a daily basis are far more in danger of becoming entrapped in one, or used as a waepon against you, since it is outside of the shirt at all times..

YES!!
I carry my neck knife models ALL the time. For me, it's a good for business. I find that most people are still not very familiar with this method of carry. Many times the neck sheath has "sold" the knife!! I have found neck sheaths to have a universal appeal. Self defense, outdoor activities and general utility....it's just a handy method of carry.

I got my first neck knife last Sept. and another one today. (Those Jones brothers are great.) I've found that for a small utility knife the neck carry is the best way to go. It stays out of the way until you need it. Plus you can carry a fixed blade without getting a bunch of looks from the mothers in the local K-Mart. Wearing it under the shirt may not be legal in some areas and the blade length may have a lot to do with the legality. But I have never had an officer ask me to undress.

I have worn a neck knife for about 7 years now and when I started using Kydex for the sheaths, it made it even handier. I tried the tie and neck knife once and it didn't work for me. It also makes more people aware of the extremely usefulnes of the blade and allows me an extra sale at times. Since I sold my folder and haven't replaced it yet, the neck knife is it for my carry now.

I worry about strangulation -- accidental and otherwise. So, I always use ball chain instep of nylon lace for the carry. The ball chain can be purchased at any hardware store and comes in gold, silver and black. Also, If you wear knife under the shirt, the ball chain simply looks like a necklace of sort.

Wear mine everyday, on and off duty. Use it all the time , too. A quick grab under the shirt, and voila! A knife! Kinda freeks some people out - I wouldn't do it in an airport.

I use a wide lace for my sheaths - just enough give to allow the sheath to exit my shirt before the blade draws clear - no need to slice up a good shirt. As for strangulation, if someone grabs your beaded chain and pulls it, they have your knife. I would rather defend myself against a choke (which I have had extensive training) than against a knife, especially the sharp little buggers I make. Does anyone know of a case where someone has been strangled by a neck carry system (keys, knives)?

"Yup. Bring the guilty bastard in."
