Please advise on the event negatives and positives.
Food was late and the cutting comps too.
Feedback will make it better the next time.:D :D

Freshly showered (and subsequently smelling better and feeling warmer!) and having a moment to reflect, this is what I came out with (I think):
-I met a lot of great people, all of whom I wish I'd had more time to spend with.
-I received support when I least expected it, and when I most needed it!
-I wished I could have seen a grinding demo (as that was really why I made the trip), but came away with a forging lesson (which scared the shit out of me and instigated a desire in me which I think I had been ridiculously attempting to suppress)
-I wished I could have been in three or four places at once, as even though I wandered a lot I still feel like I missed a ton
-I should have eaten more, as ALL the food was killer!
-I learned that a bunch of things I was doing right were, in fact, being done right... and that a lot of things that were frustrating the hell out of me seem to frustrate the hell out of others in similar circumstances

Most important for me, however, was learning that I am on the right track and must somehow find a means to come up with more time to devote to knifemaking.

I want very much to thank a few people in particular, but I think I'll wait a bit and thank them in other ways... some sooner, some later.

IG, thanks for throwing this shindig and for letting me be there for it. I see you in a very different light now, although I'm sure you're still a degenerate bastid!:D

Thank you all! I'll see you again at the next one!

I had a great time as always. Good company. Good demos. Good Host. and damn good food.
I think it went pretty smooth. next time i should write a schedule for demos but keep it to about 5 demos max. the last time we kept a tight scedule we tried to fit too much in, no time to sit around in between and pick the brain of the demonstrators
thanks to all of you who demonstrated. it was much appreciated.
i say we plan the next one a little closer to summer than fall. keep the sun shining all day this time.
and Big thanks to I.G. for having the hammer-in at his place and letting us use all his equipment.

Maybe next time Mace will spend some more time on his knife and it will be able to cut through a little piece of rope.... ahhh well haste makes waste right
man?:D

I had a great time! That pork was gooood!!

Met a bunch of people and saw the faces I knew from last fall!

Loved watching mace's forging, All the billets people pressed, etc....

I missed some demos shootin the shit, but thats half the fun anyways!

It was good to put some faces to the posts here and everyone was overly kind and willing to explain anything to anyone who wanted to know. No secrets anywhere....

I had fun in the cutting comp. I may take 6 years off knife making and do some weight training and growth hormone... :) I don't exactly know what happened on that rope cut, mace. I think maybe I took so long cutting the 2X4 that your edge rusted...
Anways, thanks to IG for being such a good host!

I may go grind on the railroad spike we twisted up....

Good times!

As always, I had a wonderful time. Did not get to see many demos, but the hawk forging demo was great. I watched a few guys making damascus and that was fun. The food was great . The company fantastic. George and his son Blaine were wonderful hosts. Just had a great time being there and looking forward to the next one. Thanks again.

Marcel

As always it was a great time. Thanks George! You are a true host.

I want to say thanks to the guys who cleaned up after the cutting comp. We made a mess.

Boy oh boy.....You miss one little two rope cut and ya never hear the end of it! Thats what I get for talking too much s*#t about the one day knife I guess.
After looking at the knife for a while last night I feel there is too much material just behind the edge.

Next time we'll have to get some toothpicks to whittle and some mice to skin so you can use one of your knives Mike.

I can't change this later in life Sonny. HEHEHEHEHE!!!!

nice looking billet Bill
man thats a good shot of Tik Tok's 57th swing..... man he needs some more weight behind that knife or he'll never get through :jerkit:

:) I took 3 pictures and meant to take way more. Anyone get my 3 rope cut or the water bottle severed with the bottom still standing?

Sorry, Dave... I was too busy watching to catch you with either of those. My digital camera is not the right device for cutting comps anyhow, as it reacts WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYY too slow. Next time, I bring the 35mm.

Mace and Spangler, you two better lay off one another before someone starts crying.:D

Mace, email me your mailing address... I forgot to give you something before everyone ditched.

hey cold food is OK too but it heated up ok :D
yes Mike needs to list things like demo's  :) oh well he'll be a year older next year if his lives that long :D

I think I botched the leather demo again any ideas on what I can do better?
everyone cramped into a tight space like that I'm not sure if it was ok or not? being in my own element would have it's pluses.. in a few more years I'll get the comfort part down..:D ideas are welcomed..

good food, good company, good times..and I think the net stockings were mentioned only once this time  :D

I had a great time and learned a lot. IG's HT relish is something that everyone should try. I hope to see some of you at the danbury hammer inn at the danbury railroad museum next weekend.

one suggestion is that those of us that use a nick name should include it on our name tags next time..lets see if I got this right, tictock=smallest in the cutting contest, Mace I know, Mr. purple=tall thin goatee, Dan gray,IG, grasshoppa=easy, I was the funny looking guy in the cowboy hat:D the others I'm not totally sure, any help here?

Oh come on me and Mace just do this for fun.... except that comment about the one day knife i really meant that one. man he can bend the knives and they won't break but they can't cut worth a damn:D
Dan i think the Demo was good. i was the only one to ask questions i think
and i think i was also the only one to mention the fishnet stalkings:eek:
IG: that food was throwing of plenty of BTUs whether or not you heated it first. man it was good. though regretfully i dind't get to try the octopus i was full by then. ahhhh well next time me and Jay will supply the squirrel and we can braise em up. cable damascus lolly pop in one hand
squirrel lolly pop in the other

Good time - thanks IG for the hospitality, the use of your equipment, and the great food.

I enjoyed the demos, definitely learned a few things, and the company was great. Meeting all of you was a real pleasure.

Suggestions? Move yourself and your shop a little closer to Vermont. That drive sucked.

I am glad Y'all had a good time. My son and I have been talking about having a IG and son HI in July. Let me know if some of you would be interested.:D
