Necronaut

I dislike red and don’t travel to space much, so it’s a pass for now.

Interestingly enough, since there are probably only trace amounts of oxygen in space, oxidation or rusting becomes far less of a threat in space.

If I were to design a hypothetical steel composition made for space, I’d prioritize edge retention, toughness, perhaps edge stability, and ratchet them up to 11 while not worrying too much about corrosion resistance.

Don't forget it's got to survive reentry. So ceramic knives are good to go

"... can survive space ...". ... It don't take a special material to "survive" in space.
I doubt wood would last for a shorter period of time floating around in space than it does laying on the ground on earth. The wood might well last considerably longer in space, since there would not be any bugs and bacteria eating it ...

The claim obviously isn't literal but you raise an interesting question. Space is an extreme environment. You've got unfiltered sunlight and radiation. You've also got vacuum. I'd be curious about liquid lubrication on the bearings in space. Looking at the website though, I imagine they mean "lost in space" while inside a space ship of some kind. I also get the idea that the astronaut here is some kind of space zombie in line with the name. :rolleyes:

It's fun and the knife looks cool but it's not for me. It's almost $300 and at 0.16", that blade stock is way too chunky for EDC.

Anyone else getting excited about the Necronaut?

It is coming from a new company, Arcane Design Co., and is being sold as a knife that can survive space. It has a not too serious approach and leans into the futuristic appeal of the knife. I have been following the progress on the knife since it was a failed Kickstarter and now being successfully relaunched.

One thing I really appreciate about the design is the pivot color. If you like red, then you are in luck, however if you want to swap they are selling Ti pivot colors you can anodize to whatever color you want.

;) If I'm goin' to outer space , I'm need'n full "Tang " ! :rolleyes::p ( old school orange powder space drink )

Chronovore Chronovore maybe not EDC, but I can imagine the look on my buddy's face when I loan it to him when he asks to borrow my knife.

I plan to play it cool, "that is the knife of a dead space sailor my friend...."

It was tested for space survivability by stabbing a xenomorph. As you can see from the test knife's image, it did not succumb to the acid-for-blood those buggers are known for.

Even if you manage a lucky 1/10,000,000 stab at the xeno, you’re only doing it once LMAO.
