Need 2.5" folder recommendations

i have an Umfaan i just CANNOT get enough of. i had a dragonfly, and i own a jester, but i NEVER carry the jester. the Umfaan is simply amazing. u can get them mint used for about the price of 3 less expensive knives, none of which will be as satisfying and as solid as the Umfaan. i just LOVE mine!!!

Spyderco Dragonfly. I bought a Dragonfly SS serrated a few weeks ago and I love it. The handle has great ergonomics, especially for a small knife. It locks into my slim/large hands very well. The leaf pattern of the blade is very usefull, and the flat grind gives it great cutting ability. As has already been said, the Dragonfly cuts like a larger knife. In a way, it's kind of like a mini Temperance Jr. I've never handled a Mouse, but it seems to be kind of pricey in comparison, probably due to some sort of restrictive pricing policy that keeps the price artificially high.

Also, two knives that I've seen on the Internet are the Al Mar SLB, and a short knife put out by Beretta, the name escapes me right now. They interest me, and might be worth looking at.

Depending on your price point......

Benchmade Big Spender - Havent handled this one, but I am picking up the Park Ave version....Gents knife, combo edge: http://www.dirtcheapknives.com/dirtcheapknives/melparbigspe1.html

CRKT Wasp - This one is a very nice knife, but is a smidge over your limit at 2.6 inch blade.....check it out http://bestknives.com/crkt8001wasp.html

CRKT S-2 - 7511 version has a 2 3/8 inch blade, get the combo edge, nice knife, titanium handles http://www.dirtcheapknives.com/dirtcheapknives/s2lin338pars.html

Spydie's are not a bad way to go either..... Good Luck

I like most of the knives mentioned, especially the Spyderco Mouse. However...and you knew there had to be one :)...I think the Spyderco Salsa is in a different category from the other knives in this length class. Not only does it offer a huge blade, despite the length. It has a grip that is comparable to what you find on the better 4" tacticals. You just can't hold onto any other 2.5" knife the way you can a Salsa. I think those who have handled one will bear me out on this.

I have all of the Spyderco's mentioned and the Umfaan. I am also limited at work to a 2.5" blade. I love the Umfaan but IMHO the Salsa is just as good for most tasks. The handle fills your hand and the lock seems to be very strong. One other knife that I like is the Spyderco Copilot. It's discontinued now but Smoky Mountain Knife Works has the plain edge for $30. Nice little knife with ATS-55 steel and built like a tank. If I had to pick and stay under a $100 I'd go with either the Salsa or the Copilot but the others are good choices. I do have to agree that you should try to handle knives in this size, if you have big hands the smaller knives can be difficult to handle.
