Need a 1ST and new Khukri, was directed to yous guys..

Welcome to the Psycho Ward...er...Cantina, Cliff! :D

The 16.5" chiruwa AK is a great choice! Take it out an whack the hell out it against a tree, wood, etc. Sometimes the kamis don't get the heat treatment exactly right and a soft spot, in the wrong place, occurs. Most likely you won't have that problem, but if you do then Yangdu will replace the blade. It is best to find out BEFORE you take it to the wilderness and depend on it 100%. :)

Personally, I have never had a failure on an HI blade and I have...uhm...LOTS of them. That HIKV disease is real. BE WARNED!!!! :D

Got an email from the company saying it had shipped already, but that if I wasn't happy, I could return it. HOORAY! I didn't care if it was changed or not. Now I'm happy that it's M43.

I'll post when in.

Cliff

LOL...So, you'll be getting the M43 *first*. Don't worry...you'll get a Chiruwa sooner or later too...it was the same for all of us. Once you see the quality and performance, not to mention the service and reputation of HI, you will buy more of them.

BTW...the "company" has a name. Her name is Yangdu. One very special and nice lady of the highest order.

Just for the sake of clarity

the M43 is also a chiruwa grip

& this M43 is no slouch at the chop

surprised me the first time I tried it

What's the diff in performance, I see the specs., between the M43 and the Chiruwa?

Cliff, Welcome to the Cantina/Psycho Ward.:D

And it ain't a matter of "need.* *Need* has nothing to do with it at all, you'll see.;) :p :D
The difference is that although a lot of the khuks will overlap in their uses each one seems to excel at one certain thing.

I thought the same thing too when I got my first khuk, an 18" AK.
Now I'm pretty sure that the 17" 24 ounce Foxy Folly is going to be my dream khukuri.
Its brother the 17" 31 ounce Foxy Folly is just mighty dayumed close!!!! ;) :D

Am I going to sell my other's off? Well maybe, we'll see if I can ever bear to part with any of my babies.;)

Cliff,
Remember these blades are 100% handmade and are differentially tempered for durability and strength. The hard part (sweet spot) is forward of the inside curve. You can see it if you "etch" the blade with something slightly acidic (I often use yellow mustard). The softer parts of the edge might roll if lateral sideways force is applied. It's easy to straighten them out usually. Use the chakma, or a burnisher. There is often a little edge de-carb and your new khukri may need a good re-sharpening to get past it into the "good stuff."
Hope you enjoy it and hang out here from time to time. I love ER stories :D

I received my first kurki"Gelbu Special" from HI last week.It was a really pleasure dealing with HI. The remaining trees in esatern Montana are in serious trouble now. What a cool piece of steel :) .Now I'm thinking of buying my boys a HI kurki for hunting season.

Hope you have as much fun with yours as I'm having with mine.

I really love my M43. I don't think you'll be disappointed. I have a small AK, only 15" and 20 oz. But, I can't imagine you wouldn't like a larger one. I'm looking to pick up a larger AK Chiruwa if one pops up in the forums (and I'm quick).
