I need a small belt sheath knife for a boy, and thinking that a Bird and Trout knife would be just the thing. The catch, it has to be something I don't already own, and not too expensive. I'd maybe go for a small drop point, but not with an overly broad blade.

Short run-down of what I've got:

Buck Woodsman and Pathfinder
Case Finn
Scandinavian knives (most brands)
Northwoods Bird and Trout
Queen Lite Hunters
Ghrohmann #1 and #2
AG Russell Bird and Trout, Woodswalker, and Hunters Scalpel

So who else makes a Bird and Trout size hunting knife?

Arthur Wright of Sheffield do a slim Whittle-tang Bowie in 3" and 4" (blade length). Very inexpensive.

I see that you've got the Grohmann (DHRussell) version. Myself have used a carbon steel #1 for quite a few decades and wouldn't trade it for anything. The Trout & Bird (is this a #2?) might have been a better choice (same profile as #1) size-wise seeing it's not everyday you use it to take apart a moose or a caribou. Quite a difference between a 3/32" and 1/8" blade when you're mostly cleaning catfish/pickerel/bass and geese.

Cold Steel has some compact belt knives. The Pendleton Lite Hunter won some big award recently despite its low cost. Also a Grohman type, a Finn something, a roach belly, -

There is a maker of bf called big Chris. He has a small "bird and trout" pattern. He uses all kinds of steel and handle material.

I have their Canadian Belt knife version of the Grohmann and it's not a bad starter knife for younger folk (and good throw in the truck knife for us older ones).

Moore Maker has this #6301 @ 6.75 inches. Mine is in stag, but bone is also available. 1095 steel.

Ryan Weeks makes a real nice bird and trout knife. He made this and the one in my sig.

My favorite is the Tom Krein TK-11 B&T. Of the ones you listed I'd probably lean towards the Grohmann 1 or 2.

I have the Boker Plus version of the Tom Krein Pocket Bowie. Like the CS Finn Bear and Roach Belly too.

This is all I have to offer from my playground. Buck, Bird and Trout, Model 491, Sandvik 12C27 and Rosewood.

For a boy, the AG Russel Bird and Trout is just about perfect. It has the safety release on the sheath, so it won't deploy by accident. The AUS-8 version is cheap enough that it won't sting too much if he loses it.
Heck, I want one in ATS-34.

I've got a J. Doyle bird and trout that is probably my favorite knife I currently own. Bought it with fishing in mind, but I like it so much that I EDC it about 1/2 the time.

I may go with that, being nothing else is catching my eye. But it's a Santa thing, so I wanted it to be different than the stuff he already sees every day in my collection.

Really like the Queen #85 pattern; I thought more companies would have something like it:

The Queen is a nice choice. I primarily collect bird and trout knives, as far as fixed blades go, and haven't pulled the trigger on one of those yet. I need to rectify that soon.
