Need a little help... If you were to give a gift of a knife (traditional of course)... What knife brand and model in the $100 range , maybe a little more, or less would make you grin ear to ear to receive and why?

The rule is 1) it has to be available either in the knife maker forum or can be picked up by a sponsored dealer on bf.

2)you can only make one suggestion.

Thanks!

Are you looking specifically for folders or fixed blades as well? Since we're only allowed one suggestion I want to make sure I get it right. ;)

Lot of knives far under that price would have me grinning ear to ear.

Is Waynorth's "Texas Camp Knife" a viable option? I'm not sure if he is a sponsored dealer or if one has it, or the cost.

If Waynorth's Texas Camp Knife is not an option, I'd go with a good three blade large stockman (at least 4 1/4 inch closed) with carbon steel blades, that have a satin finish, thus are not a smudge and fingerprint magnet.

Reason: Versitility, classic pattern, people friendly, and I like them.

For a gift, I'd have to say the Hess Tiburon. You can pick one up with beautiful burl wood handles and come in comfortably under budget. I don't yet own one myself, but I plan to in the near future.

You're going to get a great knife whether you're looking for something to use hunting, camping, daily carry, or put on display and never actually use. When the recipient opens the box they're going to be greeted with a stunning piece of craftsmanship that's going to look like it cost a lot more than it actually did. This is the type of knife I'd be very happy to receive as a gift.

I don't know if this would technically count since they are a manufacturer and not a dealer, but it would be awesome to let someone build something at the Buck Custom Shop for around $100. They could pick their own model, steel, and handle materials. It would be a great gift that would be personal to them.

I would go for a GEC 38. I love the whittler pattern anyways, and this one even has GRIN in the name:)

The Texas Camp is way over budget at around $180 give or take.

If your friend is a beer drinker you could reserve a Beer Scout...

Well thanks a lot! I had forgotten how bad I wanted a custom shop 110.
That would be a really cool idea though. I was originally going to say something made by Queen/ S&M or a CSC boys knife, since it's so common to go with GEC. However, the custom Buck would be really neat!

I would have to agree with the above mentioned. A 38 Grinling Whittler would be my choice not only because it is sort of a grail for me but also because I am completely enamored with whittling and whittling pattern knives.

I gotta say a stockman, around 3" long or so. It coukd be serpentine, a sowbelly, or straight and I wohld love it. I will say that I want to get my hands on another 897UH, it was a fantastic knife that took all my use in stride, held an edge forever, and looked abd felt great in hand. I'd buy one used on the for sale forum here, then spend some money on cleaning and refurbishing supplies.

Beautiful covers on this thing,

I really like northwoods too but I'm not sure of the price point and of the details of it,.

I am very very happy with my Tuna Valley teardrop pattern. Nice sized single-blade knife, strong snaps and 1/2 stop, thin for riding in the pocket, and collectible at the same time.

Depends who the recipient is.

if it's a non-knife guy: SAK Victorinox Farmer - fun multi-tool with a saw!

if it's a fellow BF knife nut: Any barlow from any brand.

Barlow's
Alox Farmer
GEC in the $100 range all seem like good suggestions so far!
I'm a small knife slippie guy myself and think the whittler would be excellent but I know a lot of the guys like to carry heftier bladed knives. Lots to think about I hope I can fill in these details about the who and why soon!
