Hello everyone Ihave a quick but very important question to ask my fellow knife makers and enthusist. Recently I have been working on a knife project on my own very simpluar in design to the Boker Rhino, however my blade is apoximantly 3 inches in blade size it would be used as either a compat or even EDC style knife. I have been producing a proto-type of this knife design in 1095 high carbon steel but perhaps as a finished project I would like to build it useing S30V, now the issue or question I have is what would be an appropriate method to grind the blade? my friends have told me and I have done a convex grind, however orginally I wanted to use a flat hallow grind, which one would be best or if perhaps a deffrent balde grind would be better???

Welcome to the forums!

I really is up to you, NM. All grinds have advantages and disadvantages. If it is an EDC/working knife, I personally would go with a flat or shallow convex grind but others may find a hollow, chisel or Scandi grind fits the bill. As a maker, you have the advantage to apply and test this sort of thing and arrive an educated decision for yourself. You are probably not going to nail it, first time out... that is to be expected. Have fun and post pics!

If you are new to the craft, a flat grind will be the best. It probably will actually end up being a slight convex anyway. As Rick said, it is up to you to decide.

How wide is the blade? Looking at the Boker you would need a pretty big wheel to make a hollow grind. I would do a flat, I really like flat for a ECD working knife and you would not need a large diameter wheel.
