Need a few kind words and thoughts for my dad

Another health scare from Minnesota, but this time the doctors and my mom and dad are quite a bit more concerned. I am beyond concerned, I'm scared and depressed.

He had a routine physical and a blood test showed some abnormalities, and apparently another blood test showed those as well (might be two different blood tests, I am not sure).

In any case, the doctors suspect one or both of these diseases:

He will know more on Thursday, after some more tests. He has a bone marrow biopsy on Monday and a CT on Tuesday. He should know more on Thursday.

I have no control over what happens and neither does he. You are never prepared for phone calls like this, and if I could, I would gladly take his place with these events, as I know he would do the same for me.

Thank you for reading.

Skinny, try not to dwell on what the doctors think it could be until the tests come back. Remember, worry never changes anything, make the most of the time you and your father have together regardless of the outcome.

I know from personal experience that internet diagnosing can be a scary proposition, better to wait for the actual diagnosis and then you'll know for sure what you're up against. Your father and the rest of your family will be in my prayers tonight.

SJ, I'll send up some smoke and say some prayers for you dad and your family and friends. Try to stay positive.

Positive thoughts for you all from the Pleasant Valley.

Leukemia is scary, but treatments have improved over the years. Even if he has CML in the early stages, it may not be that bad. Try to be positive.

My son had AML 12 years ago and he is doing fine.

You and your family will be in my thoughts and prayers. I was diagnosed with CML almost 8 years ago at the age of 22. I know that it may be hard, but try not to obsess over what it could be until the test results come back and the doctors know for sure. Above all, try to stay positive and deal with things as they come instead of worrying about the worst possibilities.

Remember to be there for your mom as well as your dad. I think that in some ways it is tougher to see a loved one deal with an illness than to actually go through it yourself.

only after I became a DAD myself did I begin to understand what he was on about all those years...good luck to him and all the best.

Thank you all. I just spoke to him 20 min ago.

The bone marrow test confirmed both of those disorders (Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia and Mantle Cell Lymphoma). The CT did not show any abnormalities though. He has some more tests to do, and then on April 14, he goes to the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN to see what needs to be done.

Sometimes all a person can do is fight and hope.
