Need a field knife, RAM or Manix?

Looks like it'll be the Manix 2. Also, thanks for the suggestions about the Farmer. I carry a soldier with me with my 14210, so switching out both knives for a short hike won't be a problem. Thanks for all the suggestions. I know some folks don't understand why I don't (won't?) carry a FB. It's not that I have anything against them, I know that I'll end up just leaving it in a drawer. Thanks again, all.

And, you are correct that steel types are not very important. Sure, some perform better than others, but any modern cullery steel from one of the better manufacturers will do everything you need it to do.

I disagree. My personal experience is that aus-8 and 440C @ 30degrees = fail.

I'd go with the manix personally, 154cm is awesome + spyderco heat treat and edge geometry are great.

Extrema Ratio Rao. Probably too big, but, man, I love it. You can field dress a Buick with it. I bought it at a gun show and probably paid too much - couldn't resist. They might be hard to get right now, I don't know. I have a mini Manix and it's probably the best edc I've had so far - solid, no wobble ever, plenty of power on the back bone, and holds a clean edge. I'm not sure why they stopped making them - helluva tool.

I think since the Manix and Mini Manix were lockbacks they discontinued them in favor for the stronger ball bearing lock of the Manix 2. Too bad the full-sized Manix went by the wayside.
