Hey guys I need some help. Can anyone suggest a good knife for around 30$ that i can grab for my friend's Christmas present? I was grabbing him a Ka-Bar, but my parents wouldn't spring for it. Too expensive they said. Anyways can anyone help me? If i can get it at this price range is there anything with a badarse look to it out there?

Hi there wilonpill,

There are lots of choices out there!. And Assuming you came here to the Traditional Forums on purpose and that is what you have in mind to purchase, then of coarse let us narrow it down a tad..

<> What will be your friends primary use for it, IE: work or play/recreation/hunting/fishing/whittling/carving?

<> Friend a Guy or Gal?

<> How old is he or she?

<> Are they a knife user already or is this a first knife gift?

Here is a starting point for you to gather and list that information and then proper recommendations will follow.

My friend will probably be using the knife fro anything from hunting and fishing to whittling. He is 15 and a guy. He isn't exactly a knife novice, but he doesn't own many knives. Is that enough? BTW i would like a fixed blade if possible.

If a great solid fixed blade is what you really want then this knife is the one I would very highly recommend. The durability and versatility is unmatched. I have owned three or four over my lifetime thus far and I cannot say enough good about this knife. Its indestructible rough sawn derlin scales and full tang construction and legendary design coupled with good hi-carbon steel will pretty much do it all.. And you will not find a finer knife for 5-6 times the price:

I agree wholeheartedly about the Schrade Sharpfinger. I'd just try to get one that was USA made before 2004 (old production) to make sure you are getting the carbon steel version rather than the chinese made stainless version.

Another option is a military surplus pilot's survival knife. I have one and it's a amazing value at about $30. Here an ebay link to one with a BIN price of $27.99, made by Ontario. Plus it's very "badarse" looking. ;)

Yes Sir,
Absolutely!. Thanks for the assist longbeachguy..:)

That is the sharpfinger I intended to describe to be sure.

If you are looking for a good forum, take a look at Byrd. I think you will find what you are looking for.

BUDK advertises Kabars (the real deal) for $39+pp in the latest catalog I recieved from them.

Since we're in the traditional forum, I would suggest a Buck 301 Stockman (under $30 and awesome)

For a more contemporary choice, I suggest a Byrd G10 Cara Cara (also under $30 and awesome)

Both are great knives and would make an excellent gift.

Thanks for the help guys. Can you suggest a good store to buy from thats not Ebay? I just don't wanna screw with some guy on Ebay. I'd prefer knowing I'm buying from a trusted site. BTW the knife doesn't have to be any style other than fixed blade, badarse (can i say ass?), and under 30$.

I have one original schrade sharpfinger w/ sheath in mint condition for $14 shipped to your door if interested. Email me at veritas.group@att.net

If a folder is acceptable, the everyday price for a Buck 110 at Wal-Mart is $29.

Thanks, but I'm not sure i wanna buy from some random dude on a forum. No offense. Thanks for the help guys. I will look into these knives.

FYI, Sunnyd is not "a random dude on a forum", he's a respected and trusted member of this forum, of long standing. At $14 I guarantee he wouldn't be making any money on that knife, and he's offering to sell it to you purely as a courtesy.

Sunnyd, personally I'd buy that knife from you for twice the price you're asking, and it would still be a good deal. I happen to know that Schrade USA Sharpfingers typically go for $30 or more plus shipping on ebay. I know this because I've bought a few to put up, since they aren't making them anymore.

No disrespect, but I just don't feel safe buying from someone on a forum.

LBG,

I appreciate the kind words here. As you stated I was merely trying to assist the young man in acquiring a fine sharpfinger specimen for almost no $ and certainly less than I paid for it because I thought he was 'one of us' that is bladeforum.com community. Apparently I was mistaken. That's OK because the offer won't be repeated.

Best,
Anthony
