Need a Knife for fathers day

I wanted to get my dad a knife for fathers day. I don't really want to go over $75 because I already got him something that was kind of expensive. I would like it to be a gentlemen folder or something simple, nothing tactical looking. I bought a CRKT Full Throttle but, when I received it, it seemed kind of big and heavy. I don't think he would really want a knife that big.

The A. G. Russell 4" Drop Point Lockback is the kind of knife I would like but, it's out of my budget right now. Could you guys recommend something similar or am I going to have to spend more money?

How about a nice case or a traditional Buck like the 112.
I would get him something that he is used to.

Consider also one of my personal favorites, a Case sodbuster. Well-made, simple, aethetically appealing, and not spendy.

A Buck Nobleman is a nice little gent's knife and not spendy. My personal favorite gent's knife is a Victorinox Classic Alox with custom engraving, but it sounds like you are looking for a single blade.

Kershaw Leek (my most frequent EDC), or Spyderco Delica, or Benchmade Mini-Grip

Hello...

I think a Leatherman Skeletool is a great gift... you can even purchase it in a gift tin if you don't need the sheath. It's in your budget even if you opt for the Carbon Fiber CX version. It has a knife, bottle opener, pliers, screwdrivers... a pocket clip - real nice to carry around the yard. It has great fit and finish, I think a bit better than the Zilla Jr. shown.

Also for a Gent... I have a TOPS Gent-X which you can get on ebay in your price range...

The Blade-Tech Mouse 2 Carbon Fiber is beautiful and also very close but a tad more - I can post a pic later on if you'd like... I love CF Folders.

I've been satisfied with my recent purchases from Case. Check out Shepherd Hills Cutlery for a great selection and good prices. You can definitely find what you're looking for, and ~way~ under $75.

Another store to find success, Cumberland Knife Works. In particular, since you are considering a large lockback, check out the Mountain Man Lockbacks from Queen. Available in D2 steel with bone handles for $64.

Bought my F-I-L a Schatt and Morgan Peanut ($70) for X-mas last year. I wasn't thrilled about paying that much for 420 stainless blades, but the knife is absolutely beautiful and the fit-and-finish was nearly perfect.

There is also a good selection of Queen Cutlery knives in D2, many are priced under $50.

Happy shopping!

If your father is 50 years old and up, then a Buck 110 or 112 should be well received.

just a bit above your price range is a benchmade mini-dejavoo
I've seen it for about $87.00 online.
It's quite a handsome, simple, elegant folder.

I just bought a boker congress the delrin model, I'm sure he would like that, or a sodbuster would be well received as well...

I love the Buck 110... and I'll hit 60 this summer. I have a collection, however. If he doesn't have a basic Buck 110, you can get one from Wally World for $25 + s/t. You can also get a fancier one from Cabela's for $70 + s/h - the black Al-Ti-N coated S30V nlade 'Alaskan Guide 110' (Top in picture below.). You may still have enough time to call Buck Knives and ask for their 'Custom Shop' - they might be able to make you one in orange Fiji wood scales, nickel-silver bolsters, and BG-42 steel - a real custom - for $84 (Center in picture.) - in time for Father's Day. Never mind the tear drop
Damascus - it's a lot more.

I noticed LA Police Gear still has the Gerber LMFII ASEK, a tactical fixed blade, for $59 - a steal, if you like that sort of knife. Wally World here still has the Spyderco Native in S30V for $40. If he likes fixed blades, the Northwoods Gladstone Drop Point Hunter in cocobolo & D2 steel, with a convex edge, is available for <$80 shipped from 'knivesshipfree.com', a great guy to deal with. Try him or 'DLT Trading Company' for Queen knives - both are top rate vendors. That Northwoods knife is like a custom made - from MI's upper peninsula - great for woods, camping, or hunting.

What would he like?

have you considered one of the new CRKT Koji Hara Ichi?

Also look at the seconds section at AG Russell's...he has the 4 inch drop point in a second at your price range. I have bought seveal of the seconds, they carry the full warranty and you normally have to work at finding the fault. The only mark to show they ar seconds is a notch at the tang.

Hmm
A Buck 110, Case Mako, Queen whatever, any classic lockback design.
Kershaw Leek and Scallion are both nice, as is the discontinued Kershaw Sapphire
They are still readily avaliable, ranging from $30-$70, depending who you buy from

One of many slipjoints from any number of manufacturers.

I vote for a Case; they have many options in your price range and can probably be found locally as well. They are great little knives!

A truly great quality at a very affordable price is offered by the Browning Ice storm series. They are made for Browning by the excellent Japanese brand Mcusta and are actually, except for the colour of the handle, identical to their Katana series, the blade steel is the same as well. It is also similar to the Stingray series except for the handle inlay.
For example this beautiful one is less than $35 on ebay:

I gave this model to my brother, and I bought for myself the matt-golden one. It is (next to looking like the twin it is) quality wise on the same level as the mcusta stingray which I gave last xmas to my father, and it is a lot cheaper. Strongly recommended!

The Kershaw Whiskey Gap and Wild Turkey look similar to the A. G. Russel knife. Run about $50 on line.

You could also look at the Buck 55. It's a smaller version of the 110 (about half the size, hence the name). Runs about $35 online.

(Ack, too bad my kids don't read this site. I'll probably get underwear.)
